How tall are your false indigo?? How old are they? It's beautiful. I have two separate plants that were here when I moved in about 4 years ago, but they don't seem to be quite as large as yours....curious how long you've had them.

What time of year do you cut back the stems/canes?

This one gets between 4 and 5 ft tall. I have to cut the seed pods off or it will flop over to the ground. The seed pods really weigh it down. It naturally fills our and flops a little after blooming anyway. It's been there in the ground about 3 or 4 years at the most. It's planted in super thick clay the stays wet in spring and can get really dry in the summer if not watered.

I usually don't cut it back until fall when it dies off...or in winter when I get tired of looking at the dead canes/stems :)

Have you ever tried pulling out seedlings that sprout off the main plant and transplant them? I noticed this year I have 2 or 3 nice sized seedlings, but I've read that false indigo has a heckuva deep taproot. I was wondering it I dug up the seedlings if they'd make it. Any ideas?

You can move those with ease if you get plenty of soil with the roots. Just dig down and avoid cutting the roots if you can. I've moved them like that. Should be fine.
