New Ponder here.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I was given this small pond,I looked at the Hardware today,my question is,how many gallons per minute pump will give me a nice little trickling falls,I don't want it to sound like a fire hose, and should I go with a submersible pump and filter?
Thanks for any advice here.

Hi Root, If that is the same as what I have it's 125 gallons. My suggestion would be to go with a submersible pump and filter, it will take care of your pond nicely.

Always go with MORE gph than you think you need. I am using a Rio 2100, it pumps 692 ghp. But remember that you loose flow for each foot of tubing that you have and for each foot that the tubing is elevated. By the time you set everything up you are probably pumping only half of that number.

Rio's are nice because they are energy efficient and inexpensive. You can get a filter attachement that works great. You just have to rinse the sponge off every once in a while.

Here's a link to the pumps, there are all different sizes:

and here is the filter: http://graystonecreations.com/images/profilter.jpg

I've purchased from here before and have been more than pleased with the service. If you email them with your needs, they will suggest the pump size that you need. Some packages come with a variety of attachements and even a dual spliter in case you want to run two water feature off the same pump.

I hope this helps and remember this is only one persons opinion, there are many, many options out there. It will make your head spin :).

branka, great info,I may go with the Rio 2100 pond kit,for the money it looks like it will have all the bells and whistles!thanks for your input as far as a good company to deal with,I got a pop up,while looking,Krupps I think, almost got lost in there too,I usually kill a pop up before it gets up,this one had some pretty great looking pond stuff,I better keep it simple to start.
Thanks Root.

Well Doc, I figured this would be a picture of it installed and surrounded by canna, banana and anything else tropical. LOL Having seen your garden posts, I'll be surprised if we see the pond at all once you get it in. :)
