Am I excited or what!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Another of my tree brugs a lá Monika (catch that accent Brugie? LOL) is growing by leaps and bounds. It is planted a good 2 feet below my deck in what was a little pond 2 years ago and now it has gone a good foot above the lathe at the top. That makes it at least 9 feet tall. I am so thrilled with it............. it was a sucker that just took off and grew all of this in a few months. It has its first bloom. A nice pink!

Quit your braggin'--LOL I'm jealous... She's lovely just like you. Sorry Kell--- I won't do the mushy stuff on DG anymore.

Kell, which seed from "a la Monika" is this? It looks gorgeous.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Outstanding! You need a dedicated brug-ladder. LOL

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

It looks like it has really long tendrils . . very nice Kell. What is it?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You forgot the accent on your á Jeanne......LOL! It is from her double pink that has the color of L'Amour Jeanne, mixed with her triple dark almost red pink! Do you think that bloom will be a double or triple pink?

LOL, Jeanne the seed was not from Monika, just a tree shape.
So did you think it was from a Big seed? Susie got a triple from one.

Kell do you not use clay pots because of your climate? wetter/cooler? I put some plants in the glazed pottery and you can seal the clay pots. The pots don't dry out as fast that way.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

And it works? One year I read an article on using tar for the roof inside your clay pots so I used it. For hours I painted tons of my pots. And then what happened is that from the wetness of the dirt it just made the tar peel off. I also have lots of glazed pots but the last few years they do not sell them in the huge sizes so I got the huge clay ones. I have a few left unplanted as of today. What did you use to waterproof them? I could do the few left.

Kell, there isn't an accent on la in french. Sorry. LOL

Kell,it's GORGEOUS as all your plants are-that area looks so tropical-very nice.

You could get a few plastic pots & paint them the color you want with Krylon Fusion paint & see how that would work for you-worth a try.

LOL Jeanne....... and I here was so proud of my accent........... and you had to go and spoil it for me! Brugie just emailed me the code again early this AM for the 50th time so I am trying to use it as much as I can so I will remember it. Fat chance!
Thanks Christmascactus, so what effect does Krylon Fusion paint have on plastic?

Ms Kell, it looks like a rosamond bloom, or butterfly? Your place is really pretty. i have not only weeds this year but am invaded with passion vines, sages, wood violets, scarlet milkweed and castor beans. i've bought the roundup and started using it.

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

Your garden looks great. That's what I want mine to look like when it grows up. Long way to go, sigh.

Kell, Is this Brug still in training? I read Monika's book too... She uses a triple stake system with the center stake much taller then the tree, this is what a cradle is tied to support the branch weight until the trunk reaches a diameter that can .. South Florida has terrible afternoon thunderstorms with wind gusts that would blow you over and this is the first way of doing it that has worked for me ! and believe me I have tried on my own for years : )

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Brugmania, I have just spent the afternoon stripping most of the GH leaves off my brugs. Now that there are the outside leaves, I could safely remove the shredded-by-the- wind leaves. There are buds on all the GH brugs, they're going to look a bit funny blooming with just the smaller leaves. The dormant brugs are weeks away from budding. I think I need a bigger GH.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You can lead a horse to water John, but you can't make him drink! Me being the horse! LOL. I do not always do what I should! Good point John! Yes, it is in training! We really get no storms here in the summer, in fact we used to not get any rain at all after April all the way until the winter. This year all bets are off the way the weather has been all over the country. LOL. However, I should have better support. You are right. I have a skinny little stake that only goes up part way. I didn't expect this to take off. In fact, I could cut off the Ys you see and that tall Y that goes above the porch lathe is straight up from main stalk so I could have a tree that starts at 9 feet to branch out. That would be cool. Where am I going to have this over winter? LOL. My dining room has a 14 feet ceiling with skylights...........LOL.........a new GH for Kell!!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Your DH will love it, lol. Have you had plants in the house before? My DH would go ballistic.

Liz , I can ONLY imagine the blows that come off that view of yours! But what a view !!! : )

Kell, You are so lucky to have mild weather... Standard after standard would just be completely twisted by the end of summer here... This was one thirsty horse ! this system has been put to the test several times already this year and I can not believe how well it works...

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

same here John, we had terrible winds last week, and although I worried, everything held great.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think there has been high winds in most parts of the country this spring. I know that just when the leaves on the brugs start looking good again after a big blow, here comes another one to shred more leaves. So far I've only lost the top out of one brug and consider that being really lucky. John, I heard that this could be a bad hurricane year for all of you guys down south. Hope that doesn't happen.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

well I'm jealous for sure.........lol. It looks just beautiful.

On another note, I saw some spray today when I was at Michaels (hobby store) for clay pots and it's supposed to seal them really good

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks all, I am so glad you can't see the rest of my yard.......LOL!

I am so lucky to live here, I agree John. It is the best. 30 years ago I came here with my to be husband from Boston and never looked back!

Liz, my DH moved my Maya into the dining room this last winter for it was too tall for the hoophouse. It then proceeded to drop 99% of its leaves. Hated it! And my DH hated it back! He really puts up with a lot from me.

Thanks Flowox, I will check it out.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Kell, everything at your place looks just great!
Brug and everything else. You do good (o:

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Kell, just came in from the garden and will hit the sack very soon. Loved your picture and what a happy brug. I haven't planted any in the ground. Do any of you good people plant directly into the ground or only grow in pots. CG is still sending out buds and is under the roof of the passage way from house to garage. Has had about 10 or so blooms and is growing in a 2 gal. pot. I transplanted my new Ecuador Pink from a 6" pot to a 1 gal. yesterday. Hope that was the right thing to do. It had a lot of roots. Donna

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Kell, it is just gorgeous. I have 6 brugs in the 5 gallon pails with the holes drilled in them. Haven't had the time to plant them in the ground yet......must get to that very soon. I have brugs sitting around all over the place outside. The Spouse doesn't even really get too upset about walking around those pots. He even comments on the scent in the evenings and tells people how good they smell. I need to read more in Monika's book to make sure I am doing the staking part right. At this time, I just have 6 foot metal plant stakes stuck in the pails with the plants, but am thinking I will have to have more soon. The brugs in the pails are over 6 feet tall and no sign of a "Y" yet!

(Zone 5a)

Kell your plants are just to beautiful for words. I wonder how big your brug will get this year? I will be looking forward to seeing it filled with lovely blooms and you have every right to be excited.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

This one looks like something out of a magazine!! All that color popping out, is that just petunias? Absolutely stunning.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

"JUST PETUNIAS" you say.....you are in trouble now Michele..........LOL!!! Take it back or you will just get a box full of Frosties! LOL! I love my petunias. Those are Wave and Tidal Wave petunias. Last year they gave me such incredible pleasure.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

It's lovley Kell! I can't believe you don't show more photos of your yard. I need more pictures!!!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Well she's got me growing the Waves too and I have been sworn off petunias forever because I hate the sticky deadheading. They sure do like to spread out.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I have a project I want to try the Waves on,I plan on using moss wired in,do I need to add a soil to it before I wire it in?will the grow in straight moss, like what is used on baskets?
I agree,More pics Kell!!!wallpaper on the last one.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Here is the exact scene a few weeks later and now you can't even see the birdfeeder. I would say they spread.

Kell yours is looking good. Planted the cuttings (ones you sent in the fall). Got a question. Was looking in SAMS and seen some plastic barrels. New for $24.00 and was thinking. Would they make good planters, when cut in half. Buried and Hole's drilled in the sides.
