Thanks Dee! My, but this is an old thread! That particular hydrangea is now behind a fence. The fence is along the concrete area where the bricks are. Both of my pups seem to like hanging out on top of it, lol. I am going to move it in the spring in hopes of getting it to look like that again.

I'm in Florida, now, and just thinking about my Nikko blues back in New Jersey. I get spotty blossoms -- but I think that it has something to do with how far I cut them back in the spring?

I have had great luck in rooting cuttings, and I have them all around the house. I do ghet verdant foliage, but few (but gorgeous) blossoms. What exposure do you have for the plant you have pictured?

Southeast, they get full sun until about 1 pm. I have some on the southwest that get that hot afternoon sun and they do not do as well.

Demotte, IN(Zone 5a)

I just bought a Nikko Blue hydrangea and I have a sugar sand soil here in Demotte Indiana. My yard looked like the beach when I first moved here. Is there any thing I should do to keep this blooming blue. I plan on planting it this weekend.
Thank you, starshi

Hi neighbor from blueberryville! Can you believe this weather?

When you plant the hydragea, amend the soil if it's still on the sandy side. Mushroom compost or a soil conditioner (store bought compost) works well with sand. They like a lot of water and an all purpose fertilizer. Keep it out of the hot afternoon sun, it will not tolerate that. Add a soil acidifier to lower the ph of the soil a bit and you should get blue blossoms and a very happy plant that starts blooming around the forth of July. You will love it.
