Toothbrush Rugs?

I was at a craft show and seen the beautiful braided rugs. The lady said that the braided strips weren't sewn together. She wouldn't tell me much more about them.
When I came home I did a websearch, and what I gather, the toothbrush rugs aren't sewn either.
Does anybody do this type of rug? I was looking for easy directions for this type of braided rugs. I've never done a rug before, so the easier the better....... :)
