Here's the snake about 24 hours after my hubby killed it with a .22 shotshell. He is minus his rattles which would add another 1 1/2 inches. He measures about 38 inches if you straighten out the kinks. The first photo is the best one for reading the tape (if you have good eyes). There is a red 16 inch mark about where the snake starts to look fatter, and about 6 inches from his tail there is a red 32 inch mark. This first picture doesn't show his head but the tape was even with his nose as you will see in the second photo.
