Do you generally have to let the folliage of bulbs die back before digging them up for trades? I will have Daffodil "poet" (I think) small white flowers with a yellowish orange "cup", the cup is not like a normal daffodil, it is only slightly raised, the bulbs are smaller than the regular yellow Daffodils also. digging bulbs
The reason for letting the foilage die back, or yellowing, is that while the foilage is still green it is feeding the bulb for bloom the following year.
I have the poet narcissus too. I find they can be dug but leave the foliage on and wrap them like you would any other perennial. Just let your traders know the foliage will die off but should be left on the bulbs in order to nourish them for next years blooms. These multiply fast and have wonderful fragrance. I love em!
thanks for the info! I've left them alone & marked where they are so I can dig them later & possibly trade them (some of them) along with a few other things.
julie, dig n bloom, keep me in mind for a trade of some of those poet narcissus. i'd love some. debi z
Me too Daffodils and Narcissus are my favorite spring bulbs.
I usually plant two hundred dafs each year, and I want to plant just as many narcissus this year.
My local nursery has yet to call me for my order, I have been saving my pennies all year for this order, he will be shocked I have enough for a crate of each this year.Looking at King Alfreds and Tete a Tete.
Keep me in mind if you have any to spare. Thanks Mike
I'll keep you all in mind when I dig them up for trades. Julie
