Hi - I'm a new member in Knoxville, TN. I grow anything that flowers - annuals, perennials, and I love roses, mostly Austins and modern shrubs. Not too much into vegetables, though I have two patio tomatoes in one flower bed. I haven't learned my way around Dave's whole site yet, but have enjoyed all the posts I've read so far.
Question: I want to take a 25-year-old American boxwood hedge down by about three feet all around. It's healthy but has no internal foliage. When and how do you recommend? Thanks for any help.

WELCOME eanders2 - hey everyone - this is my Sis!! Her gardens are stunning; she's what gave me the Rose kick. Got an email from her yesterday - we literally bumped into each other here at Daves!
eanders2, A big welcome from NC I know you will enjoy DG. Someone will have an answer about the boxwood, but maybe in another forum.
eanders2, Welcome from NYC where the gardens are planted between slabs of concrete. There are no strangers on DG, only friends who haven't met yet. I am sure you will find the appropriate forums to get the largest audience to answer your questions. I suffer from brugmania but work it off in the garden. Good therapy for everything that ails you or the rest of the world. :-) See you in the forums.
Welcome eanders2. I'm sure you will find your way around DG in no time.
waving at you eanders!!! welcome to dave's. I hope to bump into you on some of the forums.
this is a great place, you will love it.
hello there and "Welcome to DG" :)
Welcome, as a new person to DG myself you will be surprised how quickly it starts to feel like extended family. Love for you to check out the Round Up that some of us are going to in September, it's in Kentucky at Prizer Point and there will be a plant swamp and lots of fun. The information is under the Round Up Forum. I'd hyperlink it to you but haven't had much success with doing that yet. Tracy
Welcome! I have LOTS of kin on DG...besides I feel like all of the members are my "family". You will love it here...and I agree with Tracy.....the place to be the last week end in Sept is the ROUND UP!! I will be visiting my son in Crossville at the same time. I do hope to meet you in person. Jo
Thanks, everyone! I feel at home already. What a kick to find my sister at DG. If you're ever around Frederick MD, you should stop to see her gardens!
Have a great day.
Hello and welcome! I have a theory about the hedge and will post it on the Shrub forum (not sure of the name but I know we have something like that here). I hang out over on the farm forum mostly. There seems to be something for everybody here, you'll be right at home here in no time.
Can't wait to meet you too, jo (and everybody else!!)
Hi eanders2, I'm Janie and saw that you just joined ... and wanted to invite you to join our prayer requests forum whenever you have a prayer request or need that special prayer partner kind of fellowship... it's an amazing group of folks here, you will love it and feel right at home in no time!
Love in Christ,
Janie
Hello and welcome to DG. I'm a newbie also and have found some great people here.
Bill
Greetings Eanders2,
I am also in Knoxville - - we could be neighbors, that is if I had any neighbors that also had flowers. I grow a little bit of everything, with lots and lots of sunflowers. But I suppose my container gardens on my porches are my claim to fame. I am also developing a passion for brugmansia, and have added several new colors to my collection.
Dave's is a great place to make new friends, as well as a chance to share information and research plant info.
I live on the North end of town in between Halls and Powell. Give me a holler if you need a local gardening buddy or if you like porch sitting (drinking sweet tea, enjoying flowers and hummingbirds).
Ms. Nat
Nat, I'm in Belmont West (Cedar Bluff) so we're not too far apart. I'll email you!
Ellen
