What color are these blooms? I have the white one.
THANKS...Susie McDermand
I have two brugmansia plants. They are in the ground, and die back each winter. We live in Texas. Hot summers and mild but freezing winters. I do not know the variety I have, but it hangs down when in bloom, and is pale pink, almost white. It has been winter hardy here for about three years. I feed it hibiscus food, but it does not bloom until late in the summer. Any suggestions on an earlier bloom? Maybe because it has to come back from the root each year. Thank you. Gloria Hart
Gosh, I'm sorry I didn't see both of your posts.
Susie, the blooms start out white and in a couple of days turn peach color. Your white on is probably suaveolens Variegated.
Gloria, When it dies back to the ground it has to grow again until it forms a Y before it will flower. Brugs flower above the Y. To get it to flower earlier you can bring it in and have it go dormant in your basement and then bring it back into the sun and water and fertilize again in the spring.
Nice pictures.
You have to hand polinate the blooms to get seed pods?
Thanks,
Chris
Not necessarely Chris. The bees and Hummingbird moths will pollinate them if you have two different kinds but then they would be an unknown cross.
If you want to know what the cross is and hybridize for a better flower or plant most growers hand pollinate so they know who the pollen donor is.
Did you grow out those seeds?
How did that go Snowhermit?
They were grown out James with help from some friends.
Unfortunately every seedling was albino and died.
That's too bad James. :(
The people I know that tried it also got albinos so I won't waste my time trying it again.
I shan't either. Deadheading from now on.
What do you reckon of seedlings, the variegate being the pollen donor? What are the approximate results of that? I will have opportunity of it soon.
