What a glorious plant!
This is absolutely beautiful!!!!
It is amazing how anything well grown and given enough space to do what it was meant to do, looks so splendid!
absolutely gorgeous. thank you for sharing this with us
Wow, I have a little clump of that in my yard and can't wait for it to take over a bigger area :)
Gee Flowox, I do no think this would overwinter where you are.
This looks like the Queen of England's carpet thingamajig! How gorgeous!!! Where is this in your garden, Kell? I'd love to see more of the picture with regard to how it is used/displayed! I love it :)
This is down the street Morph, I get to see it every day and do no work. It has been entertainnig me now for over a month. It looks even better now. It is the divider between 2 houses. The plant cascades over a 2 foot brick box that runs all the way up between the 2 properties. It is fully open right now and covers it completely. It is perfect this moment in time.
I guess I'll find out........LOL. My mom's made it through the winter. I'll take some in when it gets cold, just in case ;)
I had to check my plant tag to be sure, but it does say hardy in zones 4-9! Thank goodness, 'cause I bought two bit pots of this earlier this spring! We have had such a wet summer, mine has been looking pretty ragged, but it is starting to perk up in the last week or so. Unfortunately, I think I put mine where I have way too much clay (but that's about all I have here) and it stayed really WET! I am thinking about digging up at least one of my clumps, since I need to move it anyway.
Oops! My tag says Delosperma 'John Proffit' Table Mountain (tm). I am sitting here wondering just how these are different?
Is this really an ice plant or is that just a nickname for a totally different plant?
Kell, the photos of the floribunda purple were breath-taking!! That's just the plant my husband and I would like to use on a steep bank that gets full sun. A question though: Are the flowers a true purple or a pinkish-purple? I've looked high and low on the internet and can find only the pinkish variety advertised. Do you know where I can purchase the purple variety? Any help you could give me would be appreciated.
I've just retired and for the first time in my life I can spend my time doing some gardening - something which I've found very enjoyable and rewarding. I'm hooked!!
Hey kbads, work old potting soil into your gardens at the end of the season. That will help break up the clay a little. Also be sure to break up the clay around the plant so that it can breathe and take off again!! LOL. I have learned that the hard way here. And if you can grab topsoil for a good price, get it!!
Kell, love the picture. Would love to be able to do that here but everyone likes to park in the yard so they wouldn't survive. Oh well, have lots of other purple plants to keep me entertained.
I have no clue where you could buy it Texas Lady. Here they have them in the nurseries in early spring.
As I recall it was the color shown. I am tryng to remember. I found a few online just now, that are the same color. So I assume it is correct.

It does come in several shades of pink also. Here is a strip that bloomed on 4/27/06. Put on your sunglassses.
OOH, I like that one even better!! I love flowers that are bright like that. Wakes you up and puts you in a good mood!
