Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Good morning all. I do hope someone else checks in today. It seems so lonely nowadays.
I called one of my supervisors at PG yesterday to see if anyone was working today. No one is, so I have a day at home. There is certainly plenty to get done around here. I think Shad and I will work on cleaning the bird house. Now the big question is just where to put all that bedding. I would really like to layer it with lots of leaves to get them rotting faster than they will in the bags. But where to place this pile is the big question. We also have a pile of wood chips to get shredded and many trees to get chipped up and the chips spread in flower beds. If we get the bird house done today it will be a full day of work.
I am doing a happy dance. LOL This old stiff body doesn't do much dancing. Anyway, I have been asked to work 8am-2pm 2 days a week at the cafe during the summer. That extra money will really help a lot. I have 2 projects in mind that will both be rather expensive. I'll take any Saturdays I can get too.
Still not an acre of our ground planted that we know anything about and the hay still hasn't been mowed either. We seem to get just enough rain to keep the soil too wet to get into the fields and the hay needs a day or two to dry before being baled. I also think our tenent farmer has taken on more than he can take care of if there is any machinery breakdowns, etc. Consequently, someone's ground doesn't get worked in good time. This year it seems to be ours. We were concerned about this when he took on another farm this year. He does have his 2 grown sons helping him and they are both really good workers so that is a plus.
HBB, goats are wonderful for clearing brush. I do think they need some good balanced feed and a good mineral block in additon to fresh water and the brush to keep them really healthy. You don't want them too tame or they will want to be with you all the time, but they need to be tame enough for you to be able to do any doctoring that needs to be done in case of injuries. It's extra hard on a wild animal if it has been injured or is sick and then is captured and has to be handled much. They need to be able to trust you to take care of them.
I must go if we are to get anything big accomplished today. GOD bless and keep each and all of you.
