Pond progress

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I am starting to put plants around my new small pond but have not planted anything yet. It is fun just playing around.

This is the beginning picture.

Keep goin, watchin hard, here ;D

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Isn't it amazing how a few plants placed around change the look! You are moving right along there!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Hi everyone, this is so much fun. Have ee's and nana's to go there too. It will probably be a jungle and we won't even be able to see the pond! tiG, I would love a lily, I have parrot's feather so far. Zanny, is yours done yet? I guess they are never done actually.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

how big is your pond, you might need two. I have my black EE's in mine, I kept them outside the pond in a holeless pot for a couple of weeks and watered every day. I moved them in when they were about 2" tall and they are loving it. (these were the tiny ones I got from Roz at the swap)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Connie that looks awesome!!! I was gonna tell you to make sure you put some ears around there then I scrolled down. LOL I bet that will be awesome when you are finished. It looks great now! I like grasses around mine and Leo's of course but I know you have those. OH, oh and hibiscus! Take tiG up on the lilies. ;) I did.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

and a Stella daylily. I have one at my big pond up close to the edge, and it's one of our favorite spots. Blooms early and all year. If you need one, let me know and I'll put on in the box. When it's about 3 years old, you won't regret it.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

OK tiG, that sounds good....the pond is 125 gallons. I don't know what I am doing so lead the way!

I have decided to rearrange the whole thing. Don't like it this way and have no rocks. Might make it a Real Florida pond and put oyster shells around it instead of rocks. Will have to see what that looks like.
Badseed, I forgot about hibiscus and lions ear....sounds like a winner!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

it's a marginal. will get some pictures this morning. it's not in the PDB and I don't have the Latin name.

I have a question about ee's. My big one has several blooms. Do these make seed?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm sure they do, but I was reading last week on here about caladiums flowers and they said cut them off. So I'm cutting off my ee flowers too. are you thinking of growing them from seed??? very interesting idea!! oh rootdoc! someone.....
wow, wouldn't that be great? you have my mind running now, would love to grow black ones....

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Maybe someone will fill us in on this. I have been searching the net but no luck yet.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

yes, I really need another project! LOL!!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Do you grow gingers?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

for the first year, yes. I got some from Lisa and a few from the co-op. Hoping I do well.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Me too, I love them. Some of them are not doing so good.

Worked on my pond again and put the arbor like violabirds by it. It is a small place but we are making to sit and enjoy. I still haven't put my big ees and nanas aroung yet but this is it so far.

Wow oh Wow! Weeds, I like it, alot! What a big difference you've made, now I won't be so scared! The Brug sure don't hurt neither, huh? You should be so proud!

Nice sound and nice scents would make a great place to sit! What do you have growing on the arbor? Is that a white "Woodstock" or what bird? Cute!

Keep it up!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Hey violabird, just love that name so have to type the whole thing. I have moved every plant at least 3 times so some of them might just up and die if I don't leave them alone. I finally decided to just plant the dang things and let em grow. I don't know what kind of animal that is but he is one of my big lots finds. Just love him. There is a big round funny looking frog in there too. I have yellow mandevilla and a dark purple blooming wisteria that is not supposed to be invasive like my other ones I fight all the time. I have lots more plans for this area but that will be another day.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Bravo! Beautigul pond and lovely setting too!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Thanks Zany. Isn't this pond stuff fun? I just have to get some floaters now. tried to grab some out of an inlet down the road but couldn't get them. Time to pull out the plastic!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

It sure is fun! And I can't get over how much it adds to my garden! Now everyone who comes over gravitats to the patio and we spend more time siting there talking than we do in the house! In fact we haven't eaten a meal in the house since we put the pond in and Bob even forgets about TV when he sits by the pond :~)

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Zany, that is some magic stuff, you should bottle it and sell it.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Weeds, you may be right! I had forgotten what conversation was like when it isn't rushed and restricted to commercial time and even then is puntuateded by the clicking of the remote control! Who knows, with practice we may even relearn how to speak in complete sentences that so not include the phrase "what is on next?"

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

ROTFLOL !

U GO Zany!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I know, I love the "there's nothing on tv tonight" and we sit and watch it anyway. That is decadent.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

This is beautiful. To think that you did all of that landscaping in a small space. It has such a pleasing tropical look.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Location, location, location - you found just the right place for the pond it is fabulous!

Selma, IA(Zone 5a)

Looks like it's been there forever. You would never know it is new. Linda

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Linda your pond looks great. Be glad when I get the kinks out of mine so I can work on the landscaping too.
