Yukky smelly stuff in the bottom of the pond

I'm about to clean out my smallish rainwater pond for the first time. I'm not looking forward to it it's v yukky. At the bottom is this v v evil smelling mud! What can I do with it? Can I put it on the garden?

I put my "muck" in my compost pile - I figure a few months in there helps it further decompose.

I put it directly into my gardens. The plants love it!
