Is this Maya?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm guessing my P&C isn't P&C. This picture is from last year. The colors are washed out and the photo isn't that good. Is this Maya? Kell- does this look like yours? Thanks- Kristi

Here is another picture. Notice the all green shoot from this plant.

I want to try crossing Maya with my P. & Cream.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Gloria- I have yours rooting right now. Do you think this is Maya?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm not Gloria, but I'd say it is Maya because of the way the blooms extend outward a bit. JMHO though.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

WOW! Lucky me, maybe I can cross them...that's IF we ever get summer/warm days.

Thank you Kristi. Will try to get another P. & Cream, if you want a start?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks Shirley. This was one of my first brugs. I traded a arm and a leg for it many years ago! It came to me labeled Peaches & Cream. Glad I know now.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kristi, the best way is to determine if you have Maya is to either get another one from someone or to get a P&C from Gloria. She has the real one. I can send you a cutting this fall from Maya.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thanks Shirley for the offer. I just recd a cutting from Calla. It was the same day I learned this might be Maya from Arlene. (confused?) Just my luck, LOL... As soon as my new Maya plant blooms, I'll know.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Kristi, it's been 2 years since i saw P&C bloom in person, but in my memory the flowers don't angle off to the side as maya, more vertical, the overall shape was thinner..in other words more like a versicolor, and the color was satiny.
btw, guess who has little green shoots popping up next to her newest maya? lol. Yes, it is already suckering!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Arlene- I wish I new this earlier! I really did think it was P&C.
Tell me, is it sending out all green shoots? If so, it should be the big monster leafed plant. It will quickly take over the little maya. You'll be surprised when you see how LARGE the folaige is on this one.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Kristi, i honestly am glad, P&C was too fussy for me, didn't grow much. i hear it doesn't bloom a lot, and my guess is there are more people with maya with think it is P&C, just a guess. yes all green, at first i thought it was weed. now i have another maya and the green monster!

Funny Kristi, Brugie educated me on mine and yours doee look like mine from here. I think I do have a Maya. But mine has never suckered, not when it was in the ground or all the ones I now have in the pots. It does sideshoot like crazy but no suckers. Did I send you one of mine?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

No kell, I didn't get one of yours. Calla sent me one a few days ago so I'll be able to compare them. This plant has always suckered. But this is the first time it's started to throw out green shoots. Look at all the stems in the first picture. Those are the all green ones.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I originally had (8) P & Cream, cuttings from NH. Lost (7) last summer/winter to spidermites.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I just HATE spidermites Gloria! I have them again I fear. I need to spray one more time. Everyday I give my entire planst a wash and I still get them. Before I had brugs I never had spidernmites on anything. Some never get them.

That is so odd it is suckering green Kristi. I wonder why mine does not sucker.

From the coarse leaves my guess is Maya. I grew both Maya and P and C last year and the P and C leaves are like Arlene describes them, but Maya`s very coarse and with a stiff texture (the feeling that if you bend the leaf it will snap over). Beautiful pictures btw. :)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Tonny, did you find maya grew faster?

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Kristi . . here is a photo of the leaves of what was my Maya I had received from Glory. It was Y'd and a good 4 ft tall but lost it to root rot. Never got to see it bloom.

Just a note here, My Peaches & Cream has NEVER suckered, just gets shoots all the way up the stem, have to keep removing them, or they would never grow to blooming size.

Yes Arlene. Much faster. P and C was slow for me and Ludger got it with him home to his GH. Maya was most vigorous grower and put out as much lateral shoots and leaves as main shoots. In September it was impossible to see, what was what? *lol*

Deb, that look like Maya. Good shot :)

Gloria, The Maya I grew suckered much :)
