Hi,
Does anyone have any extra milkweed plants or seeds by chance? Even just one little plant would be great. My daughter and I are trying to make a butterfly garden and we can not find this plant anywhere local.
I have many things I could trade I am sure. If you do please e-mail me at nolaatebay@yahoo.com
Thanks so much and have a great Holiday Weekend!

I am looking for milkweed
i would never plant it again!!! it spreads underground and is a pain! if you get some id not plant it in your garden!!!
Oh no, that's sounds like a pain. I've read everywhere we need Milkweed for the butterflies to lay their eggs.
Thanks for letting me know this Not Martha, love your name by the way. :)
If I do plant it I'll keep a good eye on it since you have warned me.
Thanks again,
lauraM
there are other kinds of plants for the butterflies-same family-
i have ice ballet and oh the orange one! they are called butterfly weed!
Thanks for the note on my name! ;)
happy gardens!

Laura, the monarchs also need to eat those leaves as caterpillars-the swallowtail butterfly will eat curly parsley and maybe easier to control. I will see what I can find. Do you know what kind of butterflies are in your area:
the scarlet milkweed doesn't spread by tuber, but if you don't pick the seeds you'll end up with volunteers. it's not like other milkweed exactly either, as it does much better fertilized, at least for me. i'll have seeds in a couple of weeks if you don't find some. notmartha, you must have much better soil than me.
Hey gals, please don't tell her. I need to get rid of them, (the milkweed) I really don't have much problem with them, and I do love the butterflys. I have two white butterflys that are in my garden all the time, the Monarch don't come any more. Norma
The last thing I read said that Butterfly Weed IS milkweed.... Anyway, I believe I have some, but I need to get it positively identified, which I should be able to do this Wednesday. If it is Butterfly/milkweed, I have a big candelabra of seeds I've been saving, and I might be able to find some more of the plant.
hey i have butterfly bushes-and 100s of butterflies all summer-you have to dodge being hit sometimes there are so many!
Id say get a butterfly bush or 3 and i promise you will have butterflies!
Something else is moths they love night blooming flowers and in my garden i have lights so at night we watch the hummingbird moths and others darting around the garden!
and also lantana, they love it!
if you want to have monarchs though you can't beat milkweed for them to eat.
Hi everyone and thanks for all your offers, advice and help.
I've been so busy this weekend shoveling manure! Yep, that's right... you heard me. ha ha... I won the lottery over the weekend. Well sorta.
They had this sign up down the road Friday and it said free manure. Of course I told my fiance and he agreed we should go get some for our garden. We only have a small trailer so we made about 4 loads. The people who own the farm told us we could come anytime... so we have a life time supply of manure. Got-TA love it!
Another thing I found a web-site that gives free Milkweed away, well with a $1.00 donation that is. It seems like a great site you may want to check it out. http://www.livemonarch.com/free-milkweed-seeds.htm
We already have some butterfly bushes, cigar plants, honey suckle and a few other butterfly plants. I just know that the Monarchs need milkweed.
I've seen Monarchs a couple of times in our backyard just flying around. Yesterday I seen a huge brown and blue butterfly I have no idea what type it was, but it sure was beautiful.
Okay I've yack-ed enough.. thanks for all the response.
Everyone have a great night,
lauraM
