New member in East Texas

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

Hello, I just found this site a few days ago while searching on the internet for information on water gardens. I looked around and was amazed to find the wealth of information on all types of gardening and the friendly people who post here, so I subscribed. I live in a small town near Tyler, in the heart of East Texas, half-way between Dallas, TX and Shreveport, LA. I am in Zone 8a. I have recently retired and now have the time to get back to gardening in my raised flower beds with mostly perennials. I also have 32 acres near my home where I raise registered Texas Longhorn Cattle. I have 17 head of cattle and four horses there. So, as you can see, I needed to retire just to have time for the hobbies. I am interested in water features and ponds. I have a large rubberized cattle watering trough on the back deck with a few water plants and six fan-tailed goldfish. I am hoping to put in a larger in-ground pond in the near future, and I am getting some good information that will be a great help from this site. I'm looking forward to meeting you on-line, getting to know you, and sharing information.

Welcome, etexbill! I agree with you, the folks at DG are so friendly, and there is a treasure trove of information here. DG is the best community on the Web, IMO, and it's great to have you as a member!

Thanks all for your welcomes. What a small world, I have something in common with all of you. Whiterose: I am planning a Colorado vacation and Durango is on the list. Creede CO is one of my favorite places. Eyesoftexas: I have a good friend from Gilmer and I had relatives in your home town of Collinsville. Lavanda: thanks for your eMail. I will post pictures of the gardens, pool, and animals, but I don't know about a picture of myself. Don't want to scare anybody away.
