Hello Everyone!! My mother recently experience an gardening tragedy when a minor and a few of his buddies decided to start a 3 car dare-devil race down her street. One boy lost control and spun out at 70mph (in a 30 zone mind you) after coming out of turn. Her mailbox post is now located in his gas tank! Needless to say herwild flower garden surrounding the mailboxes is completely gone. She had transplanted what we have come to call "butterfly weed." It has become increasing rare here in Minn and it is very difficult to transplant. She had her plants now 8 years and were just beginning to shoot prior to this incident. Has anyone ever found these for sale anywhere?
Butterfly Weed...
Try doing a Google search on butterfly weed. You'll find lots of sources.
The botanical name is Asclepias tuberosa. she might find that they'll come back from the roots if they weren't disturbed in the ground. They're pretty easy to start from seed but it does take a couple of years for the plants to gain any size. Some of the companies specializing in wildflowers or meadow plants might have transplants for sale.
Thank you! Her yard is made mostly (ok, 99.99999% lol) of sand, transplanting them has been extremely difficult. She had been able to get them from friends, neighbors, roadsides (lol) but w/all the space being built up with new home contruction there's hardly a plant to be found anymore.
Thanks again for the ideas!! God bless =)~
The Prarie Nursery carries it as transplants:
