Here are the waterlilies you sent me last year! They are quite happy and doing well. Can either of you tell me the maximum depth they can be planted? I kind of messed up when I redid my pond. I put them back in where they were, but ended up making the pond about a foot deeper. Uh oh. They seem happy and are still sending up new leaves.
Hey tiG and Vic!
I think 2' is what is recommended, how deep is it? 3' would probably be fine. (until someone tells me I'm wrong)
They look great, have you fed them yet?
I'll have to measure. I really am not sure how deep they are. If I raise them, won't the leafs kind of be hanging out way far from the plant? LOL Honestly I have not fed them at all yet. But don't tell you. :)
they will float further out yes, but that's not a problem. But the new ones will grow to just where they should be. Feed them:)
I didn't feed them because of time and money last year. LOL And, some people said regular food spikes and some said special water plant spikes. I never did anything. Was worried about the fish! LOL
I use Jobe's houseplant spikes. 3 or 4 per plant. You'll get more blooms and it won't hurt the fish.
Okay. I have to be careful. The fish are all named and each belongs to kids or me. LOL They got me four little koi for mothers day as well. :)
oh, how sweet!!! They really won't hurt them, the Jobes or the regular lily tablets. I hope you have slowed down since Christmas!
Slowed down? ME? in what aspect? LOL One more day of rain and ick and I swear, I will get ugly!
Sheesh, I just now read this. tiG is right. Anywhere around 18" to 2 feet is fine. I'm bringing you some more when I come up. I think water lilies are like fish, they grow the size of their environment. The ones in my water garden are huge. I had so many extras this year and put them all in a galvanized tub thinking I'll plant them later....yeah right. Well, they are are all up now and doing fine but much smaller than the ones in the big pond even though that is where they came from. So I guess the point I'm trying to make is, even though they are small now, I'm sure once you give them more room to grow than just a galvanized tub, they will get big again...I hope :-)
it's time to feed the lilies. I feel like the donut man. if it's not the brugs, I'm feeding the lilies, a job I hate! LOL!!
I know what you mean tiG. I don't like the feeding either. And with my lilies, we have to lay a ladder across the pond and crawl across it to even get to them. We could get into the pond but it is lined and very very very slick and the fish just go nuts and swim all around your legs.
right! and we've seen snakes in ours, and I don't want to step on a frog, that's for sure. I have to lay out on the rocks, can't imagine a ladder! LOL! that's a sight that will take a few minutes to get out of my mind. Good thinking though.
SNAKES!!!!!!!!! Oh dear Lord in heaven. I would be scared totally totally out of my wits!!! No way...Please tell me they are not poisonious or I will worry about you. That or don't feed the lilies. Who cares if they don't bloom. Let the snakes have them!
I don't think they are. SIL knows a pretty good amount about snakes and all he's seen are water snakes. but I'm not putting my foot in there, that's for sure! LOL!!
Well, I want you both to know, I did a partial water change over the weekend. I was in there up to my rear end-glad it's lower than it used to be! LOL I think I am gonna find me some of those rubber fishing pants! The thought of all that unknown stuff, fish, etc. swirling around my legs really freaks me out! I have really bad willies about getting bugs and hatching bugs and creepy crawlies on me! LOL I get paid tomorrow tiG and I promise you, I will NOT leave Target without plant food!!! LOL
Oh I know what you mean Michele. I have been in the pond, not often but I have been in there. And ours comes up almost to my neck. Kind of gives me the creeps. YUK!
