Anybody need:

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I have some plants to trade. For now, I will have to do trades so I have something to fill in the empty spots. I may do postage soon though. I have about a dozen Leonitis leonurus, several trades of gooseneck loostrife, a few trades of lavender iris that smell like grape kool-aid, perennial sunflowers-most probably jerusalem artichokes, etc. Don't worry about my 'wants' list. I like anything I don't have and I have many types of gardens, including a water garden and I am nuts for elephant ears, taros, etc. Let me know if you are interested.
Michele

Tiffin, OH(Zone 6a)

Badseed, I have never done a trade but the lavender iris sound great! I have hardy water lilies(not sure of the colors-white or pink) Daylilies in yellow, orange or peachy/pink, hosta-various types. Anything sound good? Coach me through this!MW

Mwhit...Badseed is the best coach ever. She taught me exactly how to mail plants bc I didn't know how to either. The first plant I ever sent, I mailed the dirt and all. Good ole Badseed came to my rescue and taught me how to save a whole lot more on postage...LOL...Michele, you know you are welcome to anything in my garden that you want!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Seed, if you have any Leonitis leonurus left, I'm definitely interested! I've a few pink cleome & purple datura to trade :)

Brazil, IN(Zone 5a)

Would love to trade but don't have much want some rambling roses? My DH calls them weeds and he's burning them all. Vic you don't send the dirt? Help, just signed up for a plant trade and don't know how to package the plants! It sounds so neat I figure I'll go buy whatever the person wants and send it. Tracy

Ditto on your inquiry about shipping without dirt, Tracy! I'd love to know the secrets to save on shipping costs.

BTW, after I was given my secret receiver in the secret plant trade a few years ago, I visited eBay to find some good deals. I didn't have what was on their wish list and this really helped.

Brazil, IN(Zone 5a)

Ohh good idea I love ebay, waiting on an order now from plantranch. Tracy

Look what you started Vic! LOL For most plants, you want to rinse of most or all of the dirt. Lots of reasons for this. It is illegal to mail dirt to some states and especially some countries. You could send in all sorts of foreign larvae, bacterias and last but not least critters. :) You also save a lot of money by cleaning off the dirt, wrapping the rootball in wet paper towels and wrapping the ball with saran wrap or putting it in a plastic bag. Just don't enclose the whole plant in plastic unless you are mailing pond plants. If you do and it is warm, your friend is gonna get a whole bag full of slimy green ufos. :( It is usually best to roll the packed plant in a paper towel or newspaper it breaks easily. Most bulbs, rhizomes and tubers like daylilies and iris, elephant ears, etc, don't need all that packaging. You can just put those in a paper bag or roll them in newspaper. We are talking about established ones. Small ones or seedlings need more care. If I mail rooted cuttings or seedlings, I do leave the dirt on-but I use soiless mix when I start them.

Thanks for the offers!
Mwhit, I would love a water lily!! :) Most people just unpot them or divide them, which ever the case my be. Rinse the dirt off, put them in a gallon bag and mail. I have no doubt you and I can get mail to each other in 1-2 days. How far are you from Cincinnati?
christmascactus, I don't really need those two plants and I never take anything I don't *need*. LOL Honestly I have both but I can send you a few for postage.
Morph! Teasing me with the cleome are you?? LOL Yes I would like the cleome! By the way, the seeds I got at coney island came up as well as some i have had stored for 3 years or more! So HA!! LOL Let me know how many leos you want.
When I got Morph's name in a secret trade last year, I went through her wanted list and also through her pics to see what she had. It was great fun!

So Sorry I think I just insulted everyone. Dh was right and rambling rose is an invasive weed. Definately won't include in any plant swaps unless you ask for it. Forgive me please - Tracy

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

A weed is only a plant growing where you don't want it. :) I have some growing on my hill. It is beautiful right now and covered with flowers. Mine was sent to me as a tiny, one stemmed seedling labeled only as a white rose. I nursed it along for three years, dug it up and moved it to a more appropriate spot. They can go crazy but for people with acreage or trouble spots, it can be a wonderful plant.

Morris, IL(Zone 5b)

Does the Leonitis re-seed? I'm interested, but want to know a bit more about it first. Haven't found much info on it other than it's being smokeable! Lol!

I'm so glad you're off to a great start with your cleome! What colors are you growing?

I finally decided to follow your advice and got a warming mat. Hope that helps my germination on the tough varieties. I can't control the heat though & it sure seems awefully warm to me. My heating pad on low or even medium is probably the same temperature. I hope I didn't bake my seeds last night with the thing.

Seed, maybe we could set a date and I could deliver the cleome? Then, no packing or postage for either of us & I get to see you water pond which I'm dying to see! And, your girls & dogs of course! Would that be too much with your job & all? If not, I'd love to see you again :)

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

hillbilliebo,
That looks a lot like the rose DH and I were digging along the roadside last year. Weed or not, we wanted it.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i have a pink rose like that in my back yard. it was here when we bought the house. oh excuse me i have several of those. :) i cut it waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back each year and it grows and grows and i do the same again. anyone who would like some is welcome to it. i've sent off a few sprouts to folks here at dave's. it grows wild here in massachusetts.

Brazil, IN(Zone 5a)

Gingerlily - be glad to send you some e-mail me your shipping info and I'll go dig some up. Unless you have plenty now.
debi_z - I would love to have some DH doesn't know (Ssh)but I'm going (my son will do grunt work) to move some of my rambling rose closer to the house and drape it over an old washtub the neighbor was going to haul to the dump. That way it won't be in his way and I can keep some. I think the pink would be pretty mixed in with the white. I didn't know it came in different colors. Let me know how much SASE you need or if you want something in trade. Thanks! Tracy

Tiffin, OH(Zone 6a)

Badseed, Email me with your address and the plant will be in the mail!!I can smell those iris now!!MW

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey, I am not ignoring anyone. I'm trying to get some things done around the house today. I have to go in for an EGD (endoscopy) tomorrow, to check the condition of my hiatal hernia/acid reflux and whatever else. I will try to get all these finalized before the weekend so I can dig on Sunday and mail on Monday. Saturdays I don't get off work until 12 or 1 pm so I can't mail then. I promise I will get back to you all. :)

Easton, PA

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i just looked up leonitis leonurus. it is advertised and sold as a substitute for marijuana. i'm telling you the truth. naturepatch, i found that same website. go check out this website.

Morris, IL(Zone 5b)

Haha! I find the flowers to be interesting and would like to try it, but I can't find much of any info other than the smoking gig. Guess I should try a more refined search! Lol! Don't want to smoke it...Just grow it!

Naturepatch

By the way, anybody out there know how many plants we inadvertantly grow that are controlled substances? Would be fun to know.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I have seen the articles about this being smokeable and honestly most sites say it intensifies the effects of marijuana and I have also read it can make you quite ill. The common name for the wild plant is Dagga. Sorry I didn't check the article-no time right now. It is in the database here at DG. I can attest to the fact that I only grow it because it is a very interesting plant with neat flowers and I don't even care for orange! LOL In the south, it is a perennial shrub. Up here it grows a good 6-8 feet tall and has uncomparable flowers. It was offered at Logee's last year for $15 a plant. I grow it each year from seed because I like it. :)

Tracy, does the ramblin rose have thorns? How much time of the year does it bloom? Does it make hips?

DO you still have any?

Love, Lavanda

Catoosa, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi,
Do you still have any of the leonitis leonurus? I would love to try to grow some. I can send a sase or maybe a trade if I have anything you would want. Let me know what kind of things you are looking for.
Thanks. :-)

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Joyce, hi! Did those caterpillars ever turn into butterflies?

Catoosa, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi,
No, they never hatched. :-(
I watched and waited for a long time.
How have you been doing?

Brazil, IN(Zone 5a)

Lavanda - I have tons it's everywhere in the back woods of our property - at least until DH gets thru with it. Yes it has thorns lots of them, I think it only blooms once in early spring, but I could be wrong (anybody else know more about it?) I'm not sure what hips are (completely new to gardening) but if you tell me what they are I'll check. Glad to send you some if you want it just let me know and I'll go dig some up. Tracy

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi Y'all, I'm back and pooped! LOL I still have a soccer game to get through and work tonight. If anyone would like to finalize a trade and has not heard from me, please E me. I am planning on digging everything Sunday and mailing on Monday. I checked to see and have about two dozen of the Leonitis left. If we have not lined up a trade, you can just E me about what you have and what you want. I also have 4 divisions of Lysimachia "Alexander", a few Apricot Foxglove, Yellow Viola (I think it is called "Celestial"-don't have the pkg sitting here), Gaillardia "Portola Giants" and whatever else. LOL The Lysimachia is plant divisions, well rooted. The others are six month old seedlings, nice size and the Viola are blooming. :) I am also still looking for pond plants-especially floaters and oxygenators. I have fish babies now!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I've never grown Leonitis before this year. A friend gave me seeds and I have some several month old seedlings that have never gone in the ground. The ones in the ground have not yet bloomed but I look forward to that day too.

I've never tried to ship plants, but if anyone is still interested I will give it a try. Right now they're out there in the yard, wanting to be in the ground but I just don't have space or time. Would love to make a trade for a brug, but will send for postage.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Seed, do you want some arrowhead and some American water willow? Both will multiply and you will need to toss some onto the compost heap a couple of times a year, but they do make nice pond plants. Wish I still had parrot's feather, but I somehow managed to lose mine. If you don't get any, I will ask my sister to send some for both of us. Let me know about the arrowhead and water willow.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Airhead update: Monday is a holiday. Mailing will have to wait until Tuesday. :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Plants, plants, I got plants!!! Woo hooo! I posted in mail call. :)

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Tracy - thanks for the rose cuttings for me: I particularly want it with thorns because it will be good habitat for the wild birds.

Hips are the vitamin-C-rich red fruits which develop inthe fall where the flowers have been. They are edible for humans and for wildlife as well.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

And those hips make great jelly!

Brazil, IN(Zone 5a)

ooohhhh I hope they have hips then, i've been wanting to make jelly. Tracy

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I sent you soil Chele!! :-(

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL But it was wrapped around the lovliest plants! I've sent and received soil before and I think we all lived through it. I guess the soil sniffing dog was napping at the post office that day, cuz the plants got here just fine!! There was no soil on the angels. :) Love ya Doll!

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Whoa Leonitis leonurus and Coney Cleome (Main gate?) where do I sign up?
How does that postage thing work?
Do we meet in the parking lot? : )
