Can't say the same for the brugs, but we're all okay. We had a terrible storm with hail, a tornado and pouring rain. The tornado didn't touch down over us(it did take out a subdivision a couple of miles away), but sounded like a freight train and I was convinced that the gh would leave the ground. I took pictures of the hail after the storm was over. It was pouring rain and was running about ankle deep. It was like ice water on my feet.
Alive and unhurt
OMG! I'm glad to hear that you and your family are OK. Look at those poor seedlings! When with this awful weather end? It's the middle of May for goodness sake
Here is a close up of the second wave of stones. These were much bigger than the first and really hurt when they hit(I thought the hail was over and went outside)
The stuff on the ground is hailstones and the blooms off the white pines behind the greenhouse.
I had a big seedling brug that had Y'd, it lost it's top, lots of the brugs lost leaves, all were bruised and battered, but they will grow back. The wind blew lots of stuff over. I'll pick it up tomorrow, when it dries out. One more wave of severe storms is supposed to be heading this way.
Gosh Calla... thank goodness you're okay. It sounds scary. Too bad about your plants but I suppose they seem trivial when you think of what could have happened. Is this weird weather ever gonna end?
I'm glad you're alright :)
all those plants!! :(
I'm so sorry for your plants!
But happy you are okay.
Hopefully the plants will recover.
Susie, I'm so glad to hear you are okay. I thought our storms were bad, but you really got hit. Luckily brugs do recover with some time and at least you guys are okay. Did the hail go through the greenhouse plastic? What a spring this has been, all over the country. Maybe things will settle down now and we can enjoy our gardens and yards.
I know how you are feeling. Got the same treatment here. One touched down near here about four miles away. Striped the leaves on every thing here also. Happy you are alright.
Ted
Glad you and the family made it through ok.I know it's heart breaking but the brugs will recover.
Susie, I'm very glad you are okay.
Oh my goodness! I just logged on. What a storm you had. I'm so glad that you and your family are safe and sound.
Sorry about your plants!
Watch out for the next round of storms! Be careful and stay inside.
((Kristi))
The last round was just rain. My yard looks like a lake again, but it will drain. I think the greenhouses were okay, it was pouring rain and the hail was making it foggy. They estimate some of the gusts were 90-100 mph, glad we didn't get those! There are trees uprooted, houses gone and power lines down, but none on our road. So far, no one has been killed, only one seriously injured. Brugs can be replaced, lives can't, and I'm thankful that we are all safe.
After the hail stopped, I walked out into the parking lot. It was flooded and that water was ice cold, it made my toes ache it was so cold.
I am so glad to hear you and the family are all okay. Atleast there is a good chance of the brugs/seedlings recovering. Please stay safe. Best check in with my nephew they live in Knoxville.
WOW!!!
We had some storms up here a few days ago and I was so glad my plants were still in the GH,we even had tornados in Central NY......
But nothing like what you had,so glad everyone is OK,are you asking your self if the storms could be worse in Texas???
Glad that you're ok, Susie, that looks like it was quite a storm!
Unfortunately, Texas (& Oklahoma) get the same kind of storms, not to mention the occasional dust storm. This is tornado alley, although I've lived here my entire life, & the only tornados I've seen with my own eyes were on tv.
I can't believe the size of that hail! Was there any warning on the news or did it just come out of nowhere! Sorry for you also Ted!
Oh no! Its heartbreaking to see all the damage done but the plants will grow back. More important is that you are ok.
Cala:
I'm glad that God kept you and your family safe. May He bless all of you always.
The warning that we got was our neighbor running across the parking lot screaming "Take cover, it's on Edgemoor Road" and our lot was full of customers. We sent my daughter to the store next door(big concrete building) and we got the customers into the greenhouse and out of the hail. It hit fast, not much time to take cover. We had the radio on but with the big fans running in the gh we just didn't hear the warnings.
Thank God you all are safe, I will be so glad when this part of spring is over. Tell Lauren 1 week, 3 days....
Susie I'm glad you and your family are safe. Your brugs will perk up in no time with your loving touch. Here in TX you'll have to worry about hurricanes near the coast. You get more notification with those storms. Once in awhile we are under tornado watched in my area--but nothing usually happens because of our hills. Our problem is flooding. I have to carry my one dog outside when it rains too much.
Egads Cala, what a frightening experience it must have been for you and all your customers. what a disaster! So glad to hear that you are ok, as for your brugs and other plants, they will grow back, you have the magic thumb, of this I am sure. Your daughter must have been scared, I know mine would have been. Hang in there, and nurse your plants back.
I live in North Knoxville, not too far from you Cala. I was out in the car, turned on the radio when I saw cars pulling off of the road, and learned that the tornado had touched down not far from where I was. It was very scary - -the rain was brown from debris and was coming down so hard, it looked like a waterfall. I was lucky enough to find a safe place to pull over and stop, and there was no damage at my house or to my car.
The first thing I checked when I go home were my brug cuttings that I got from you this spring. But they were on a covered porch with not even a stripped leaf.
I'm glad to hear that you are Ok, and that you had only limited damage. As you said, things can be replaced, but not people. Let's hope that this weekend's storms are minor. There are alot of folks that have suffered this past week with tornados. I'd hate for them to have to have more terrible weather at time that they are trying to clean up. Nat
That was terrible. You must have been so afraid; I know I would have been. Thank God you are safe.
Nathalyn, I knew there was someone else here from Knoxville, but couldn't remember who it was.Glad you are okay too.
I think it hit west Knoxville much worse than here. My friend Mel lives near Cumberland Estates, she got hit pretty hard, but is okay. She said her brugs look like giant snails ate them.
Mystic had hail in KY and lots of rain.
Very glad to hear that no one was hurt.
Cala,
Very glad to hear y'all are ok.
