Bad winds!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

We've had wind from he^^ for the last three days now. I've moved all the potted plants in the garage. The wind is so strong it pulled a large potted brug right out of the soil and blew it across the yard. It's starting to really dry all the plants out. I just braved the outside to turn on the soaker hoses. Anyone else getting the bad wind? Are you doing anything for your plants?
I need some normal WARM calm weather. Anyone have that? If so, I'm packing my bags and my plants and coming to stay with you. I'm a great cook. *grin*

We just had to deal with those winds. I was afraid they would come your way. There wasn't much I could do with most of my brugs because they are planted in the ground. I did put some of the potted ones in groups and somewhat out of the wind and some still blew over. It wasn't pretty and today was a bit windy, but if they could handle the 50 MPH stuff we had a couple of days ago, they can handle just about anything. I'm sure they are totally hardened off now. Hope the winds die down for you. It does get old just listening to wind instead of being outside, comfortable, and getting things done.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Kristi, just come in. I can need a good cook in the restaurant, much space for your brugs here and the house is large enough:)
Such bad wind we donīt have here in spring.

Hope you can handle it all, my thoughts are with you.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Kristi, I sure hope they die down and you get some normal spring weather soon.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Brugie, how did your plants fair? I'm glad to hear your wind is dying down and you didn't get any major damage. I'm more concerned about the drying effect the winds are having. We have 100% sandy soil and the little rain we did have is long gone. Soil is bone dry now.
Ludger, I'm packing my bags and I'm on my way. I have LOTS of restaurant experience *grin*!
Thanks Tig- I REALLY need a dose of nice calm weather. I miss being outside.
The one plus, I've got my laundry caught up. YEAH....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kristi, they are very wind whipped and some are shredded, especially the bananas and BOP. The ears did fairly well and the brugs have crips leaves as if the wind just sucked the moisture out of them. I don't worry about brugs. They are very forgiving and will come back quickly. Have you dug down in the soil/sand to see if there is moisture or if it is just so dry on the top that it appears to be totally dried out? I watered deeply this morning and tonight the beds all look totally dry, but they are moist an inch under the surface.

MD &, VA(Zone 7b)

Have had the wind here for the last couple days too. I don't know what looks worse, the brugs or bananas.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I was lucky, had mine in the GH, some under porch roof, out of wind and rain. We had 50 mph on Saturday, thought the GH was going to come loose, have had 6-1/2" of rain, in 12 days of May. Supposed to get more tomorrow. ENOUGH already, save some for when it is hot and we need it!

Hope everyone comes out ok with the brugs and plants.

Kristi, would love to taste your home cookin'.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

The winds had been terrible up here also. Lost power early sunday evening until monday afternoon. The brugs fared well, a few leaves got a little chilled almost like a light frost. Today was finally calm and even had some sun. It has to end soon! Hope everything is okay Kristi . . the winds have been something else.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh, Ludger...........(waving hand wildly).........pick me, pick me, to work in your restaurant. I will be your dessert chef. I make a mean cheesecake and wonderful pies. :>) My Chocolate Tuxedo Truffle Torte is to die for!! I made that as a birthday cake for our best friend, and just the chocolate for it cost me $14.00!!!!!!!!!!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Winds are starting to die down some today.
We are dry Shirley. This sandy soil holds no moisture. I never thought I'd say this, I miss my old clay based soil!
Gloria, come on down. I'll cook you up a big meal. Bring Ann_Z with you, she can make dessert. That Torte is sounding MIGHTY good right about now.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Wow! Getting hungry here! Don't that chocolate Torte sound yummy?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kristi, we just got hit with another big one. The winds only lasted 5 minutes or so, but they were worse than we had this last weekend. I had brugs on the ground, small limbs down, pots of other plants overturned and the door ripped right out of my hands. Thought it was a tornado. The neighbors lost power and had to have the utility co. come out. Must have been a limb down on a wire or something. Now, the sun is trying to come out. I sure hope the whole summer isn't going to be like it has been the last few days. Wish you had some of my soil to mix in with your sand. Mine is too fine and needs some of your sand.

Edited twice because of spelling and there are probably more errors, but fooey.....I'm leaving them.

oh Shirley, I'm so sorry! soon summer will be here and all this will have calmed down and we'll be watering everyday, waiting for a cool breeze.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You're right Bonnie and then I'll have something else to complain about. LOL!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

you and me both girl!!!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh NOOOOO Shirley. I'm glad to hear your okay. Your poor plants. HOPEFULLY, this weather will soon pass.
No need to talk about complaining ladies! I've covered every complaint in the book, since last fall! LOL... Just ask my husband. I think he was ready to send me off a month or so ago.
I'm convinced that my moods are directly linked to the weather. Forget hormones *grin*!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

We had gusts here for a couple of days. It kept blowing things over. I finally dug holes and sunk the pots in and that seems to work.
Kristi, hope your brugs are okay and I agree, it's the weather that causes bad moods(that and the full moon)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Brugie, that sounds terrible! I was going to complain about our weather also....but not nearly as bad as yours....... but it was downright nasty today! This has been the coldest spring in 35 years. But we have 1 day that is the pits and the next is in the 70s and beautiful! Tonight I finally got a bloom other than CG that I could pollinate my GL with but I am afraid to do so for the wind may blow the pollen off.........LOL!! I emailed Susie an SOS!!!

san antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

don't you just hate how awful brugs look after the winds tear them up?? not much wind here these days, temps from 75-95...somehow we missed spring and went right into summer!

datdog, i need help with the cooking...got an extra room cuz i'm kicking out my 18 year old for not doing the dishes!

ludger...do we get room and board, and how close to monika's are you??? i'm a great cook, if you like japanese, chinese and italian!!!
