Alice it's very pretty.....remember me in your will. LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's beautiful.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

A real beauty, but I thought it would be much darker.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I thought it would too, but even the pictures I've seen that were taken by Native Habitat, have been pale pink. It is pretty, but I sure thought it would be a lot darker.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

In my mind I was picturing a dark EP.........

Its pretty though......

Its the genes you need so who cares what it looks like...LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

How tall is that one Alice? Is it from NH? I wished it was darker but so glad it is not a Frostie! LOL

Mine has a Y but no sadly no buds in sight.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Long tendrils. Think it might get darker next couple times it blooms?

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Pix above is when it just opened. It is much darker now. Should have got another pix today.
I will try tomorrow if sun/heat does't do it in after the cool no sun days we have had.

Plant is over 2-2 1/2' tall and 3 branches. Yes, from NH.

It's 'genes' have been spread all over the greenhouse since it opened. LOL

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Way to go Alice. I got mine also!

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Alice, are the pollen ( anthers? ) closed to the stigma?
Most B.aureas have free pollen ( anthers? ).

Would it be possible for you to post a side picture?

Great picture.!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Way to go Hibiscus. Hope you both have great luck with your plants. Looks like Alice has a bit of a head start though. Wish I had one in bloom. Heck.....I wish I had anything in bloom.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Just a suggestion.........when crossing anything with this one...label it RK USA X ? So in the future any question on background will be exactly known. Pollen from overseas should also be labeled as such. RK eu X ???
:-) Accurate records are what we all should be working for.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I have a long bud on Peachy Cream if a big branch doesn't fall and break it off, or a hail storm, or....high winds. Talk about bad weather! When can we look for spring? Soon, I hope, before I lose(my sanity)here!

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Kyle, your suggestion is yust great!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

wow! look at all your plants, they look so healthy! beautiful!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gloria, I have never seen a Peachy Cream.....pretty please post a picture when it opens for me.

I just love your R Alice.............can't wait for mine to bud. LOL.........I went out and told it yours has............and to get going!! It has Yed and is busy putting out new leaves. I still have it in my dining room........LOL!

So does anyone have an educated guess on what I would get if I crossed the R to the GL???

So Kyle, do you think the 2 R's are different? NH went to great lengths to tell me this was collected in the wild. Is it a different plant than the euro one is?? I know the color sure looks different!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Alice, its a pretty flower. But you all should follow Kyles suggestion until we know better.

So this isn`t it? :/

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Considering the trouble he had propogating it ... I would think it is the real R. The color looks a lot lighter but maybe it will be darker in the summer months.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

From the comments here my take this isn't "the" Rothkirch.
So I am labeling it 'Rothkirch NHE' for exact reference.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Does anyone know anything about who originaly collected and named Rothkirch? and where? Look on the bright side...if it isn't Rothkirch..it's definitly still got Rothkirch genes! :o)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Well, Bruno, I sure hope you are right!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

RK was found in Colombia

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Thanks Monika...Where was it grown first? the US or EU?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It was introduced in Germany. However I dont know if by Hubein or Dr. Holguin.

DR Holquin would be a good guess as the collector. He spent a lot of time in South America collecting and researching these plants. We may never know for sure. :-) All I know is we should label all crosses we do with any plants in the uSA as such till we get all of these wildforms straightened out.Monika isn't Rothkirch a semi weeping form of plant? weaker branches?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Alice, everything looks so nice. Would you consider adopting me? LOL........I can't wait for blooms.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

If you adopt Brugie, Alice, take me too. I'm her evil twin.
All your plants are gorgeous.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Yes it is Kyle. The growing habit of the flowering region looks much like that of a weeping willow. The branches become thinner and thinner. The flowers appear on these thin branches. Some of its offspring like Flaminia, Rosie, HG 90 - 127 or Rosa Zauber show the same growing and flowering habit.
Dr. Holguin was collecting with Tommie Lockwood, Barclay, Hubein and others in Ecuador and Colombia.

Monika, do you know the botanical collection data or do Preissel ... and was the sample that RK originated from distributed to any northern European botanical gardens? I am working on tracing the original sample, but need something to go by.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Lol Tonny,
I do wish you much luck.

As far as you are going the Preisel-Line, you will have some """wood-ways""":-).

Please give a phone to him and you will see.

He is the director from a large( very large ) Botanical garden and a freetime park in Hannover.Brugs and Daturas are part from the nightshadowgarden in Hannover, Dr Preissel doesn´t have the time to watch it all.

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Well, I may try one of his gardeners tho *lol*
