The pollen is still not fluffy at all to even get a little and my GL is a waiting! I love the striped calynx and buds.
One of my small P & C's is blooming!
Aw....that is so pretty.
Kell,
I can't remember if the pollen ever gets fluffy in P&C.
In order to try to get seeds for a variegated from P&C or maya do you use them as a mother or pollen doner.....?????
It's pretty Kell.
Use P & Cream as pollen donor, my seedling(CG x P&C, from Karma), does not have veriegated leaves. NH tried P & Cream as mother and all the seedlings had all white leaves, they didn't live.
So Glory if it stays dry how do you use it??? None comes off at all!
Good question CC!
I was going for a variegated double.........LOL........... with no thought or research. typical of me! But I have tons of blooms on GL and few other brugs in bloom!
That is interesting Gloria!
Hiya Kell....that sounds like my Culebra...very little pollen! I have to scrape at the dry anthers with a blade to try gather the pollen...only thing is that it takes a lot of anthers to get a decent amount!
You'd have to ask Karma "happy toes", she's the one who hybridized (Peachy Cream), from CG x P & Cr.
My anthers only seem to have pollen dry after about the 3rd day. I would cut the anthers off and rub them on the mother plant. About the best you could do.
Brugie has brought it to my attention that this one looks and grows more like a Maya then a P & C. It may be, I was going by the tag when I bought it. I got it from a nursery across the bay. A big grower here is growing them in 5 gallon cans.
Liz, does this bloom look like yours? This was the first day. The color of the leaves are more of a blue green, not a yellow green like my CG.
Brugie showed me Glory's P & C's flowers and mine is yellow streaked, not peachey at all!!
The foliage on Maya has a gray green look when it is mature and the blooms don't hang straight down. To me they don't resemble a versicolor bloom and the P&C does. I've been wrong before. It is hard to tell when they are small plants. I remember last year trying to tell the difference between mine, but with growth, it was pretty obvious here. I still have to remember that we all have different environments for our brugs and what one might grow like here, may not be the way it grows someplace else. The blooms on my Maya were rather small, short, and peach in color. I can't get a picture to upload.
Kell, that is so beautiful. How old is the plant? How long do I have to wait for a bloom?
All of my seedlings and cuttings are doing nicely, but they are only 4-6 weeks old.
pssst kell-----ummmm try some soft music and mood lighting for your pollen----Cosmo says sometimes everyones anthers need some coaxing ...... :) cheryl
LOL Cheryl!
Ihuges, this is its second year and I have a huge one from it that stands well above the top of the garage door. It is a fast grower. Brugie always told me that P & C was a slow grower but I always figured it likes the cooler weather here. It hated being indoors this winter, dropped all its leaves.
Here is another cutting from it, a 4.5 ft tree about to burst forth in bloom. The blooms sure do not hang straight down! But if I recall correctly Liz had hers and it looked like this one.
The color is yellow striped, no peach in sight!
That is so pretty, Kell. How big does it get? Tall, I mean.
Mine looks so teeny compared to your's Kell. Here is Maya, it either came from Brugie or Hibiscus(I'm so sorry, but you guys will just have to live with the fact that I mix people up). My Peaches and Cream is two years old and hasn't bloomed yet. If it doesn't bloom this year, it's outta here. The foliage on P&C is completely different from Maya.
This picture of Maya was taken a while back.
Poor Susie, you are so young to be mixing up names. LOL!! It was me who sent you Maya, but I don't care if you mix me up with Gloria. She is such a sweetie and a very good trader. You really are patient. I tossed my P&C a long time ago. I can't deal with something not blooming, not growing much, and taking up space that I could have another brug in.
Well, Brugie has me convinced that mine is not a P & C. My flower does look like yours but yours looks a little peachy and mine has no peach at all in it. Maybe mine is a new variegated?
Does Maya not sucker but sideshoot like crazy? I have so many sideshoots it is almost a pain removing them............LOL!
I wonder where Miss Lizzy is on this. She has 2 beauties.
Cala, can you post a leaf comparison side by side. PLEASE!
Hi Kell, I'm certain this is Maya too! Mine seems to produce peach coloured flowers in winter and yellow striped cream flowers in summer! I love the winter flowers!
I'm just reading this for the first time, sorry Kell, I'll have find my pictures (and a cup of coffee, I just got up).
Kell, you were telling the truth about how tall this one is. It will have a big beautiful canopy soon. Send me some of those side shoots!!!!
Sorry..........messed up..........

Ms Kell, i was always suspicious that yor P&C wasn't due to the fact that it was robust and grew fast. hardly ever hear that about P&C. I love Maya, it has a nice lemony scent to it and is a great bloomer.
Kell,
My Maya puts on lots of babies. I'm going to try and post a couple of pictures first wil be Maya. It seems there is less space between the Corolla and Calyx on the Maya then on the P&C. I did take pictures of the two flowers together but since deleted them and the P&C was a much longer flower. Yours looks like Maya to me. Just my 2 cents.
Mine definitely looks like your first one Glory, Maya. Thanks!
Glory, here's your comparison you did for me last year.

Thanks Arlene....that picture really show the difference in size.
