I am hoping someone here can help me. I have all kinds of tiny to medium taros and EE's now (both Alocasia and Colocasia) and have two questions. I don't really want anyone to do the research for me but if you could point me to a reference site or book, I'd much appreciate it. Of course if you know and tell me, that would be good too. Normally I love to look stuff up but time has been so short lately. Sigh. Anyway, which ones can grow in water? And, which ones need shade? I have many of the common ones and then some like-nobilis, amazonica, 'polly', black magic, purple stem, black velvet, plain old esculenta...etc. I did put the purple stem, black magic and esculenta in my pond last year and they did fine. I would like to use some in my pond and some in pots and some in the ground. Yes, this is a long post for someone with no time, but luckily I type pretty darn fast! LOL
Dumb Elephannt Ear & Taro questions.
all I know is that Kyle said use only colocasias in water.
Colocasias in water..not alocasias..they resent being IN water and usually end up dying. Xanthosomas will grow in water too especially Violacea and sagittaefolium. :-)
Wow this is an old post! Thanks for adding that pic. Just so happens mine wintered over and are sitting by my pond so maybe they'll sneak in soon. LOL
Hey badseed, how are ya? Ears are a new addiction of mine. I just bought this book called "Aroids, Plants of the Arum Family". It was originally published in 1988. This is the 2nd edition from 2000. It says the species has grown from 2500 to 3200 in the last decade. Can you imagine how many more there must be now? Now, if only I had time to read the book!
LOL Bambi! I'm good and you? I do find time to read while I am nursing. That is about it. Ears rock and you sure have the climate for them. How are you coleus doing?
