potting up cuttings

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

My cuttings have all rooted, I started them in small clear plastic cups. They are now ready to move up a size. Did I read somewhere that cuttings are planted (finally) deep enough that only the new shoot is above ground?

Also, how do you control slugs? My leaves were beautiful when I moved them to the deck, still beautiful when I moved them to the yard. Now they're full of holes, I guess it's slugs. Any suggestions?

My advice: put your cuttings in 5 gallon pots.... i know... but i'm the same zone as you and the bigger pot you put them in now the faster they will grow and bloom. late fall to spring, Monika and Eclipse are right about moving up slowly..... not in the hot humid south in the summer though. actually they may be large enough to plant straight in a well nourished hole, i've done that also.

slugs may be the only kind of critter i don't have, at least not that i know....lol....

I agree with Arlene. In our climate, move to a large pot soon.
I think the reason for using smaller pots is to keep the soil temp warm. Not a problem here.

Thanks, I'll do that. I've been busy with Mother's Day and family. I have sandy soil, so drainage is no problem. Is it best to amend organically or chemically? I also have lots of shade (large trees). How much sun?
