How DO you cut out the sides of a bucket?

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

I know I saw it somewhere...what sort of holes to put in the sides of a 5 gallon bucket to use it for an in-ground planter..can anyone help?

i use a portable drill... using a 1-1/2" drill bit. don't forget to also cut a hole in the center of the bottom of the pot. Monika recommend shorter round pots rather than taller pot. hope that helps.

I used my gardening clippers and got odd sized rectangles and a cramped hand....................

My DH use his drill with a doorknob drill bit. Very easy to do on the heavy plastic containers. He made two rows and staggered the holes so that the top and bottom holes don't line up and also placed a hole in the bottom.

I lined mine up and did them all with a doorknob bit in about an hour.

Thank you for all the replies, I know someone posted a picture here and I looked for it, but this will do. I bought some 5 gallon buckets at Lowe's..will these work? I am hoping to bring them in next fall. Course, they are already getting pretty big..maybe I should plant them right in the ground....???

Boy, I am turning my DH in for a better one with a doorknob drill!

Kelley,
Think you'd get a good trade in? LOL

Well actually, I should be thrilled that he has not traded me in yet........LOL! Believe me, I got the prize, he did not!
