Check out the tendrils on the inner skirt!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have decided I just love this one!!! It is so full of buds. I took Bruno's advice and pollinated 4 blooms tonight. 2 with my orange sang..........yes I know, I know!!! LOL

And 2 with my generic orange. It is such a large bloom and has long tendrils also. It is a pumpkin orange.

Here is my generic orange bloom that donated its pollen. The trouble will be that GL buds so close together that there is no way I will be able to mark each pod with the father's name. I guess I will have to do each clump of blooms with the same pollen.

Kell,
Golden Lady is a very good Mother.

The attached picture is one of my seedlings Golden Lady X Whiskers...it is a double...light yellow( what I could see of it in simi light) The inner skirt is still stuck inside the main flower. It's a small flower.

I can't believe I actually was able to post this picture.

Very, very nice Glory!!! Yello is so cheerful. You know, last year my GL had very small flowers, this year they are much bigger. Yours looks like it hangs from the plant at an angle just like GL does. I love how it hangs.

Wasn't it Kyle who was looking for small flowers to hybridize?

I slit the skirts with a scissor to get access to the stigma. Golden Lady and Citronella are sisters, according to Ursel Neu.

Monika,
Since this is the first time my above seedling has bloom am I correct that it may be a little different the next time it blooms? It is a double but the other skirt is way up inside the flower.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I will have to go to your site and look up Citronella, Monika. Was GL a Madame Neu cross? My stigmas are hanging down in the open, below the inner skirt. Made it so easy to pollinate. I wonder as cuttings get handed out all over if it mutates at all. Is that possible?

Glory, what are you going to name your beautiful creation? Is that your first flower? You must have been so thrilled when you saw it was a double. If I made a double I would be ecstatic! LOL, even if it were ugly!

LOL........edited to say I think that dark spot on that stigma is pollen!

Glory, the next flowers are often different from the very first flower of a hybrid. Spring flowers differ much from summer flowers especially in size and color. Doubles may have a complete inner skirt. In general new hybrids should be tested for two years before being released.
Anouschka fooled me when she had in the first year only white flowers. From the second on and since then they change into golden yellow color.

GL is actually a Mme Blin hybrid. The two ladies exchanged seeds. The stigma of GL - flowers are sometimes free but often covered by thick and strong skirts. The flowers of GL will become much prettier from June on.

Gloria, that's a pretty yellow color. I hope it stays that nice yellow.
Kell, you've caught the pollinating bug now, you will be putting pollen on every bloom!

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

those are all pretty :)

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Gloria, congratulations. I hope it stays that pretty yellow also. I don't know about you, but my double white drops the second skirt much better in the spring and fall when it is a little cooler. In the summer it stays stuck inside.

I took more pictures last night but site won't let me post them right now.

Monika,
I have two different seedlings that are doubles same cross..GL X Whiskers. I will hang on to them for a few years to make sure they do well. Right now I'm just giving them numbers..no names. I am excited just knowing they are doubles....YES!!!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

2 double crosses out of how many seedlings, Glory? I can't wait to see your pictures. I wonder why you are having such trouble posting pictures. I am not.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

WOW! You gals have it all.......beautiful!

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

It's a nice one Glory! Congratulations!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Congratulations Glory. This is a good start. I would keep both for hybridizing. With a bit of luck, you may improve flower size and color and even keep the trait for doubles when choosing the right pollinator.

Kell,
It keeps timing out on me...I check another site and had no problems posting pictures.
I think I have about 25 seedlings of GL X Whiskers behind the GH...wouldn't that be something if they all turned out to be doubles...right. LOL

Monika..could you help me out here and tell me what I should pollinate the new little seedlings with?

Very nice Gloria, way to go. Hope you get some more coloured doubles out of that cross.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well that is too exciting Glory............ LOL!!!

I bet you just caused a stampede to eveyone's GL and everyone is madly pollinating them as we speak. I myself can't wait for my R to bloom to pollinate with that one!!

Monika, was GL in Baby Bolero's background somewhere? I just love that one. Or is that a breeders secret? LOL

Kell,
I'm getting ready to go out and pollinate my Species with the pollen from this new little GL X whiskers flower(203GL) Heaven only knows what that will bring.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice color Glory. Hope you will put up another picture as the skirt drops. Congrats!!

Shirley,
I don't think she is going to drop her skirt this time...LOL
I was just happy to see another skirt up inside the flower and then to have two seperate plants with doubles is not real. The older the flowers gets the more they look like GL but as Monika says that could change in a minute.

I'll try and post another picture early in the morning when most eveyone is off the forum.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Gloria, you are so lucky to have made a double. Maybe as the weather warms more, she will change for you.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Glory, I would pollinate with a pure golden or peach colored versicolor or x candida.

GL background is a double x candida, supposed to be Tutu. The pollinator is unknown. Ursel Neu says it could have been Grazie. Baby Bolero has no GL in its background. The grand parents are known.

Monika,
I already pollinated two of the flowers with Dr. Seuss and will do the other two with Versicolor Peach later today.
Thanks so much for your advice.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Wish you much luck!!!

Thanks Ludger!!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Glory, did your skirt ever drop? Any more of those seedlings bloom?

Kell,
I think so far I have had 3 of the lot bloom double and one single......there's 70 plus more out there yet to blooms.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Did you post pics and I missed them?

Kell, I think I forgot to post the pictures on Daves but I will so you can see the little doubles....still working on getting them larger.
