Salt added to pond

Cypress, TX(Zone 9a)

Does anyone add salt to their pond water? I've been reading on the web that it can be beneficial to your fish. Any thoughts? Thanks

I always do a 3% salt solution in the spring as a spring tonic for my fish. No later than a month afterwards I do at least a one third water change on the pond to cleanse it of some of the salt.

Water hyacinths and water lettuce seem to be pretty sensitive to the salt solution in a 3% concentration so if you are growing these don't go above 2%.

I salt my ponds. It protects the slime coat on the fish and is medicinal when it comes to simple ailments like fin rot or ick. I found that one cup of salt per 100 gallons does not hurt the hyacinths in the least.

I need to add, use plain salt. DO NOT use iodized.
