Hey Rootdoc!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I imagine you are at Brugie's or somewhere in between, having a good time. LOL Here are seedlings from Bruno's seeds along with the melanga you sent me. So, how do/does mine compare with the others? :) The seeds and the tuber were started the same day.

Badseed, Congratulations on both of them! Do you have any tips or advice on how to start the Malanga? I'm really looking forward to growing one of these giants!

Hey Bruno! Somewhere the Doc said to plant them with just a bit of the tip exposed. I planted mine in a cup about an inch taller than the tuber was. I kept it moist and kept it under lights. About half of the cup is stuffed full of roots so I guess I better repot it soon or stick it in the ground. :) Can't wait to see what comes from your seeds.

Has anyone heard of the condition in Kansas City? Sounds like the tornados were bad--hope Doc's ok, along with everyone else in the path. Anyone hear from Brugie?

Hey Guys I'm here, just sitting down for a few, sorry to worry anyone,I was up in Iowa in a pup tent, sleeping through the storms there.
Dang Seed, looks like you are leading the pack with that bulb!!!!Sorry Shirley,we though you had the lead in the race,of coarse John sure is quite down in Fla,bet he is pruning leaves off already.
(DW) Monica said you could see the funnel cloud from the house heading for my friend brokeneck Mikes,I just called him and he said it wiped out houses close then lifted and went right over his house.
Geeze I leave town for one weekend and miss all the excitement.

Been wondering if you got home okay. Didn't get mail from you Doc!! Bet you are tired. Guess what....the bed in front of the garden is planted. Now, I'm tired and I know you are home okay, so I'm off to get caught up on some much needed rest.

Root.good to hear you are all OK down there. I was looking for Xanthosoma violacea and guess what?? I think this is the cultivar used as "malanga" the violacea is listed as wild in the carribean areas and used as food and for cattle feed. The leaf stems are dark purple....that would explain the dark colored tips.We will know if anyone gets a plant to leaf out soon.I'm gonna try on mine.
Thanks again! :-)

I think mine might be a bit too deep. I'm going to work on it tomorrow. By the way, when I was planting it, there was a second shoot coming up beside the main bulb. It was down about two inches from the top.
