I bought this big Ear tuber at wally-world. Is this how it gets planted? The pointy part goes up ... right? Or do I have it upside down?

yes, plant the pointy part upward... that is where the new growth will emerge. good luck!!!
Usually one end will look like it was cut while the other will have several rings and possibly even a slight protrusion or point. You want the flat or cut end down. :) I like to start them inside so I have something resembling a plant to put outside. Then stand back! Leaves 2x3 feet or so and a plant 5x5 or so, even in zone 6. Have fun!
