Dahlia imperialis

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

I ordered this yesterday from Plants Delight, I am excited about this, any information???? Bleek, Mark?

I grew this once, and never saw it bloom. It may be day-length sensitive, and it gets too cold here in NJ as the days get shorter. Would love to be able to grow it, sounds special. Good luck! John

well, I have one also which is about 12 inches high in about 10 days. They can reach 12 feet when grown in the ground in a good rich soil

I have a spot in full sun that is very sandy and I could incorporate some well rotted cow manure. Does this sound like it will work? Does it need any kind of staking?

very sandy is bad but you will have to add plenty of well rotted and make sure it is! You may be better to buy composted farm manure and add it along with leaf mould to the hole and surrounding area

and you will need to stake it!

composted manure is ok for dahlia's then? sometimes i'm not sure what is and isn't. thanks
