Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I know this has been addressed before but I don't remember where. Something is eating the leaves of my brugs and I just noticed it today, help!
Thanks

it's so wet, have you looked for slugs? snails?

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Not wet here, has not rained in 2 weeks.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

want some? rain and slugs?

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Rain yes, slugs no. How do you get rid of slugs?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm going to get some slugbait in the morning. Slug-be-gone or something like that! LOL!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

my best way is to water around sundown. then I go out about 9PM and again at 12 midnight with a flashlight and you will find those evil munchers!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Isn't there some voodoo or some ritual to stop them?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

roflol!!! you test that theory

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Well, I was thinking of torturing one in front of the others and videoing it for future use.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

actually, I've read here at DG that if you put a bunch in a blender and then spread that goop out, they will go away. (you test that one too)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Use salt in your ritual and all the others will leave your yard ASAP!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Hmmm, I have a blender I got for a wedding present and it still works! Must be a hundred years old. What better use for it since I have been unmarried for awhile! Those marguaritas will have to be shaken, not stirred.
But, I also remember when I was a kid putting salt on those babies. It works.

Weeds , seems like I've been fighting slugs and snails my whole life! You will never win but never give up the battle : )
Also check the undersides of the leaves tomorrow as a month or two ago this place was plagued with a tiny green caterpillar with a black streak down it's side, sorry I do not know what it is called .

What do you do about that caterpillar? and the slugs?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

how about surrounding ur plant with sand. i read somewhere, sand cuts off the slugs skin when they cross the sand. dried, crushed egg shells will also do the trick. eggshells are very sharp like sand. check this url ... http://ghorganics.com/page13.html

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

he keeps his frog on a leash!!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Ties the leash to the brugs? Or stays up all night?
Mavie, I will try that but have so many planted, yikes, I don't eat that many eggs.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

check the url i posted. click on Barrier, gives u lots of alternative that u already have around ur house/yard.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

ok, will do.

I just took my life in my own hands and went outside with the west nile mosquitoes and looked at those brugs. You know what was on them? Roly Polys. Do they eat brugs? I guess so. What is to stop those cute things I use to play with? And why this year and not last year? They are always around.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Hi Weeds, What are Roly Polys?

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Pillbugs, never knew what else they were called so I looked it up.

weeds, Just got in from making sure that frog stayed on my Brug all night LOL, the Roly poly page said they only eat tender young shoots.. is that the kind of damage you have?
I bet you JT has some great tips with all brugs he has and you two in the same area of FL I think I'd tug on his ear!*G*

Good idea. Seems something is eating more than the baby leaves. Oh well, we must co-habitate.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Weeds, three things eat my leaves.Caterpillars(too early)
grasshoppers(too early) and slugs. If the holes in the leaves are ragged I would suspect slugs.I had some in the GH this spring.Never had them before so I suspect they came in on a plant and multiplied.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Thanks JT, I am afraid that is what is getting mine..WHat do you do to stop them?

Weeds,
Try using a hammer!!! I know no one likes a smart---.

read somewhere that you can make a copper ring out of wire and place it at bottom of plant--snails are invertabrits (sp?) and detest copper--n then theres the whole beer in a saucer thing---------? *ponders rolly polys eating her plants :S----* never trust bugs with cute names......
