Does these plants bloom in the first year?

Nope, they take 2, even 3 years to bloom, I think. I tried it once, and after the first year it was only 4 ft. tall, with small leaves. I guess it needs time

I'm sure mine gave blooms the first year and have never stopped. It is very invasive and has taken over a mahogony tree that I made the mistake of planting it next to, but I love it's uniquiness and will continue propogating to give to friends.
