New Datura x Brugmansia

Now that I have your attention this is really an aurea hybrid named B.Bambina. Wow! Hybrids like this make me wonder if we haven't tapped into all the phenotypes already at hand with our Brug hybrids then just think what will happen when someone starts introducing new tetraploids and such blowing the doors open on possible new phenotypes.
http://kirchner-abel.de/shop is where you can actually order this hybrid if your overseas.

Okay, since no ones bitten. Check out B. Hybride 'Salegold' . This one appears to be a multihybrid with pink and gold stripes. Simply divine. If anyone comes up with something like this in the US this year I'm going to simply go on a snipping spree.

Eric you will like Pfalzgold, too.I keep both Sale-and Pfalzgold. I think both are good partners for your Amber Rose.

I am just in awe Ludger. Nothing could make me happier than to simply just look on the web and see such astounding hybrids being created. Amber Rose, while she is my baby, I think she has much to much versicolor in her and is in much need of some more suave and aurea influence. Still, Amber Rose and Dr.D both are very fast and easy versicolor type multihybrids. Ahh, I think I am simply going to need time to calm down after seeing these hybrids. My mind is going a million miles a minute. Too many crosses floating around in this head of mine.

Eric,
One of my versicolor Peach plants did that stripe thing last year but only on one flush.

I like your running thoughts...I do here in gh,too..

Your wish is my order, lol. Both - golds have already buds,I will save the pollen and pollinate the AR.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Wow, too cool. I really like that B.Bambina, I love the color. I like the Salegold too but the B.Bambina better, or maybe.........I don't know.......I like them both....LOL

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Well, even that I am not a fish I bited (?) on the hook of this one *lol* I have drooled much over Bambina myself recently and it still amazes me what someone can find with the Brugmansia genepole. Seeing this one I keep repeating that I have to stay of the beaten track. Both Bambina and also Salegold will make whatever flowers the wierdlings produce look like pure seven-eleven *lol*

Ludger, its a very beautiful flower. Is it one or two different Brugs on the picture or is it different colors on the same tree?

FSH, TX

Tonny and Lene, can you imagine B.Bambino crossed to Culebra and the siblings crossed to each other? It would be interesting to envision getting lucky enough to have a Pink upward pointing Culebra type flower with snake like leaves. I know, ever the dreamer, but I know a few of you are experimenting with the Culebra and her hybridizing potential. You'd probably have to germinate several hundred just to get a few worth working with a cross like that, but still....The mind wanders.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Tonny, one brug in picture,Pfalzgold changed to orange.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Those are beautiful Eric.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Calalily, you made a orange cross last year, sorry lost the name..anything whith cat in the name( Dave posted it).

Any pollen for Pfalzgold? May be we will get more orange.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow the flowers go up! Great find Eric! Another for my dream list!

I remember that brugmanisa that Dave grew that Eric is referring to, Cala. Was that one of yours? It was so pretty. On my order you are filling, can you stick one of those in there. Might as well get as many brugs for the cost of that phyto to send them to me! I would love to have your hybrid! Was it Orange Cat? I remember it had a manly name! LOL.

FSH, TX

Ahh, Ludger has informed me that it is the strong aurea influence that makes this ones flowers go straight up like that. Admittedly, I have only had one hybrid that went up enough to catch a little bit of water. Enough to get the pistal to rot, but not enough to be trully impressive. Very bad on getting seeds from that hybrid though. Of course ripping the corolla off or simply putting tape over the flower, etc would keep this from being a major problem. I've even tried tying the corolla down and that seems to work to some extent. Ludger's "Avalon" does this very same thing it appears at the right time of year. I have to say that "Avalon" is indeed one of my favorites for those of you that have not seen her. She has exquisite color, form, and of course she's loaded with blooms. Now, if only we could have some fragrance come through on this old monitor.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Eric...I've ordered Bambina and it should be here soon! I wonder what she'ld be like crossed to a very wide, wavy mouthed suav or insignis!

Bruno

FSH, TX

Bruno,
I imagine she would be to die for if you crossed her to a very wide, wavy mouthed suav. Me personally, well thats exactly the type of cross I'd like to see. Large, wide, but short highly fragrant corolla with no tiny midsection coming out of a very fat calyx. The fragrance would of course have to be there unless of course she threw out cascades of never ending repeat flowers. Then one might be able to forget the fragrance. Dreaming of Brugs and hoping you get exactly what you want out of that cross Bruno.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow Bruno! I am so happy for you. Can't wait to see your pictures of your new babies.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Yeah... that's exactly what i was thinking Eric..a short Corolla too! LOLOL Sounds like we're trying to create a Datura! LOL

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

I would personally love to see one of you two create the first Datumansia.

Orange Cat. Those are really beautifully colored!

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

I'd have to grow some Daturas first Tonny! Dennis sent me seeds of three varieties you sent him and i had 0% germination ROFLOL I guess I'll have to wait till next year as it's probably too late to start again!

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

How'd the Bambina turn out? Like the pic?

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Any ideas of the fragrance of a mixed breed? I do hope it would have the brug fragrance!

And, then, does the B.Bambina have traditional brug like qualities? I mean, datura die after one season, but it looks like the B.Bambina has brug type characteristics?

Someday we'll have them here, won't we? We have so many experts working on crosses they're bound to find success ~ my hopes are with them!

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Morph, 'Bambina' is a Brugmansia, not a Datura x Brugmansia at all, the thread was given a subject to get everyone's attention. So, you are correct about its Brugmansia characteristics!

Of course, the cross is not impossible, but will take determination!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Thanks, John! I was confused after I reread this several times. Sometimes I feel like y'all know all this stuff by heart and my questions are just too stupid to answer. But, I appreciate you taking the time to clarify for me. {{John}}

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Morph,I picked a bouquet for a Friend tonight, and the Dats Way out did the Brugs!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

You're so sweet! I've never tried putting either into bouquet ~ sounds like they may do well, though? Great suggestion & I'll certainly try this next year :)

I didn't have a thing blooming for a halloween get together we had last night. I did find minature orange roses at the store that I mixed with baby's breath and some greenery. Very simple, but I really liked it. It matched well with their color scheme for the Fall season :)

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I just filled a solo cup,grabbed some Brugs,my friend liked them,then I got some Dats,they were fresh,chrisp,and strongly scented.
I'll get you some seeds,so you can get them going early, seems two weeks before your last frost is good.
Please send your addy.
Root.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Thx, Root! I thought someone had said that the Dats didn't have a fragrance or if they did, it was not pleasant. Perhaps that just applies to certain varieties? You're so generous & you've got mail on the way :)

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Morph, I think it was more than a little misleading... Your question was good, what other way do we all learn?

I grew Triple Yellow Datura this year, and it had a lovely fragrance. I understand Datura wrightii is one of the best for scent. Will be trying that next year. {{{Morph}}}

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Wow ~ glad to know this :) Thanks, John!

Big hug Morph! and a smooch or 2 too!

Dat/Brug Newbies:

Last night I came up with the answer to remembering which is Dat and which is Brug: The t in Datura points up, and the m and n in Brugmansia hang down. Just like their flowers. I am so clever!

Too bad I have neither Dat nor Brug, but I hope to change that siruation in '08.

Carol

PS: Don't argue with me about the g; m and n are more like the flowers.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm a little late with responding but I like your cheat a lot, Carol.
