Dumb question :)

I got something in a trade labelled as "glory of the snow". I was thrilled to see something that resembled a daylily in my garden that had buds. The only obvious difference is that the buds were shaped like eggs. When they popped open, the coloring was somewhat like a fried egg-very yellow in the center with white petals. They opened in the day and closed at night. I didn't get a picture before they finished. When I look up the above common name or Chinodoxa I find blue flowers. What do I have?

Sounds like it may be a species tulip. Maybe turk.?

That is a great guess, but not it. :) These have really white petals, I think 6-7 petals with a yellow orange 'yolk' center. I kept meaning to snap a pic and just never got to it. boo hoo. They just bloomed last week along with the daffs and before the tulips. hmmmm

Hi Nature! I think you got them in your second pic! What are they??

Here's my glory of the snow ("Chionodoxa luciliae"), they are blue:

It is a species tulip, Tulipa dasystemon Tarda, or Tulip Tarda. It is a rockgarden species. I just picked them up last fall, so this is the first year they have bloomed. Aren't they lovely? I am falling in love with the species tulips. I only have four varieties, but I love them all. They do tend to like full sun to open though. They close at night, refusing to open until the sun has been on them for a while, and they stay closed on cloudy days. Guess you got a mis-named suprise! Lol! The person who sent them probably didn't know the label was wrong. Enjoy them!

Branka, yours are the ones I kept finding when searching. LOL Those are lovely! Mine are indeed the second ones that Nature posted. I will have to revise the name tag. I love surprises. :)

Squill???????

Mine looks a lot like squill but it's not, it blooms later. I really like that yellow one. This is another good example in the debate of common names vs. latin names :). I try to use the latin names but still use both.

If it is my yellow you like, maybe we could exchange a few of these as well with our soon to be trade?
