Philomel , is there a common name to this? Is it in the dogwood family? Sure a pretty thing. Is this a tree or shrub?

No, it's a very small shade loving perennial.
If you click on the plant HYPERLINK above you can view all I have to say about it

No common name I know of

On investigating the links myself, I found the common name 'Twin flower' - so have added it to the entry

philomel, I remember seeing that plant picture somewhere and thinking it very nice. Your link and photos very good. Now I know why I didn't try to grow it, needs very acid soil and I have very alkaline soil and have to work hard to grow anything liking acidic conditions. Donna

I guess I am going to have go investigate who might sell this lovely around here at a local nursery. I think I could meet those conditions, shade and acidic soil with plenty of moisture.

ruth, you could grow it in a special bed using ericaceous compost and/or peat as it's only a small plant (or even a container) as long as it's in shade and kept moist - not wet.

Good luck Lenjo, hope you find it.

Aww; the beautiful shot is gone:( Please upload it again, will you?

As soon as I get home (lol) and I welcome your offer to remind me should I forget. I'm using a friend's computer in Scotland to access DG, but of course can't get at my photos til I return
