GL, I don't want to be the one to tell you, so I'll let someone else answer, lol.(I think you need to come see me)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I didn't think so either:) but didn't want to tell her first.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I was holding back and am glad you two gals showed up.

Maybe Datura seedlings? I've had the devil's come up looking like that.. : )

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I had Datura seedlings last year that looked just like that

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Does not look like Dats to me.:0)

The Datura seedlings I had that looked similar to these sprouts grew up to look like the one's in the pic ... I forget what creative name the seed seller called them maybe blackcurrant swirl ,who knows ???

I guess you can tell I'm a half-full cup kind of person (as opposed to a half-empty).

If it's datura, I'll be happy too.

Callalily, do you have brugs to share this year? If so, I'll have to come to Knoxville soon. You were so generous to me last year, and I loved having brugs for the first time ever.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

GL, I always have brugs to share with you, lol. Just come on down, we might even find one with a bud.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Better get there before I show up with a tractor trailer!!!!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm just judging these by the stem color and the single leaves still coming out, will be interesting to see what they are.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

They look lie milkweed seedlings to me..put a stake next to them and wait and see what they turn into. :-)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

I'm with eclipse, they look like my scarlet milkweed volunteers.

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

did you have datura anywhere near that spot? I have volenteers by the milliions last year-----not that I dont like datura mind you---------:) just WOW they self seed in a major way.

UGGH! Scarlet milkweed A. curassavica .... Have a native garden and 3 years ago innocently thought this one was native, Not! for every one I pull three pop up some where else.
I have since replaced it with A.pernnis and A. incarnata . But till this day I'm pulling these guys on a daily basis! : )

The seedling reminds me of a kind of weed that grows overly on this side of the pond. They get small clusters of white to pink flowers and too many seeds *lol*

Tonny_and Lene,
Even thou I'm complaining about A. curassavica , It still is an important food source for our Monarch butterflies...
Both the adult butterflies as well as larval depend greatly on all species of this plant here. Unfortunately I have found the non native A. curassavica to be devastated by a aphid like bug that feeds exclusively on them. Hope your weed over there does some good as well :)

Playndirt, I had a datura about 25 feet away. Come to think of it, they do resemble the datura seedlings I have growing under lights.

After reading all these answers, I feel like I should pull up the seedlings. I'll wait until I get ready to plant something in there and am caught up with yard work. Ha! That's kinda like 'when pigs fly.'
