Qs for the cat folks ...

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

I've got a few questions, all cat-related, so I figured I'll ask them all at once.. answer if you can .. Thanks! :)

#1 New Cat introduction - Furball hisses and growls through the double-stacked baby gates at poor little Hobbs. He comes running back into the room to me ...mewing .. "Mommieee!!" I can't let them physically get to each other yet b/c Hobbs has a Fel. Leuk. test awaiting him Tuesday (question on that following). Hobbs runs back and forth between me and Furball, probably making Furball jealous, but never has Hobbs growled or hissed back - often, he drops to his tummy, submitting to her. It's been two full days of Hobbs in the house - is this normal? When should I expect Furball to wind down her fussing... The gated door isn't open 24/7 - its' open for about 30-45 minutes at a time, twice a day or so. Is there anything I can do to ease the tension? Furball still gets her intimate sleepie night times with me, and still purrs when she's pet at 1-2 am .. :)

#2 Fel . Leuk . test .... Hobbs... Tuesday ... His mom was Negative, and "he hasn't been outside". He has had three foster moms before me, and I was told the "never outside" by the last one. He has had one shot that was supposed to be a vaccine... Does the shot he's had increase his chances of testing positive? How can I be sure if he's positive it's really him, or just the shot he's had so far? Since he's had one shot, is the test even a good idea?

#3 Food .... Furball is 10 months, and needs to be weaned from the kitten food, before she grows any wider .. :) Hobbs however can't have anything but kitten ..... I've got Furball's previous kitten food leftover - going to give that to Hobbs.... Question is ... best food for an adult? Nutro? Science Diet? Please pick the best among those available at stores - I'm not going to buy online, I don't feel that's worth shipping when I can buy at a store ... There aren't any health issues except kitten formula's a little tooo much for Furball.

#4 Next food question ... How do I feed them seperately if Furball is used to free choice? I think I can assume Furball will keep Hobbs from her food .... but how would I keep Furball out of Hobbs' food? :)

Thanks everybody for your help ! :)
