I have lots of seedlings that are going into a small plot of land and are very, very close together. I can't figure out the best way to tag them. I can't put one on the seedling itself and if I put it in the ground by the plant, it will no doubt get lost or moved as I have these planted so close together. I imagine if I am lucky, it will be a thick forest soon. I will not even have room to crawl under them to see what the ground tags are marked to see which cross is which.
is there a better way?
thanks
any suggestions?
Kell,
tie the tag on the plant...put a hole in the marker and use some type of string to tie it on.
Well Hi Glory Glory!!
but they are now only 3 inches tall and the trunk is less than the diameter of a pencil. I am afraid if I put it on now it will strangle it in awhile.
how many varieties Kell? perhaps you could color code with pipe cleaner at base very loosley and catalog in journal? course this comes from someone has the orgainzational skills of a four year old.?????
I'd let them get a foot tall before transplanting into the ground. They would be large enough to hold a tied on tag then.
Kell, when I plant out Datura they are ofter too small to tag and the tags put in the dirt will wash away, if we get heavy rain. I draw a map over the bed(s) and mark the seedlings A,B, C etc and under the map I write A =, B = etc. and tag them later on.
Gee, I do not know Plays, I have not counted. But alot.
So I did not know I was supposed to wait till they were a foot tall. I guess I will halt moving them over. I am eager to get them in the ground though so they are less dependent on human care.
I don't know that you have to wait until they are a foot tall. That was just a suggestion. However, you do want them to have a very good root system on them when you move them.
Kell,
I agree with Burgie..let them get a little larger before putting them in the ground. BTW..where did you find the extra yard to plant them? Did you dig up your husbands grass?
