seedlings

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

This springs seedlings are up and growing.I have one row of winter seedlings already in the garden. The seed pods from the doubles aren't ready yet but should ripen soon. Now the anticipation begins.I will be more excited than a kid at Christmas.
Oh,that nice new pot on the lower right is one of those that John brought to the swap. :>)

oh my JT! you've got your work cut out for you. And as much as I love John's pots, I love the idea you just gave me for seedling pots! why didn't you share that before???

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is a lot of babies. Hope you have lots of room to grow them. Bet you will come up with some really special ones. They look great!!

I always plant my seeds in pots, maybe not the same kind as JT, but 6 or 8 inch pots. Saves a lot of room until they need to be transplanted.

Hey JT, if your not going to use it I want my pot back ! LOL :) I take it the musa ornata's needed transplanting.....

JT . . congratulations on all those healthy looking seedlings. I can certainly understand why you will feel like a kid at Christmas. You are bound to have some real beauties.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Wow, congrats,

fertilize them, we need pictures from the first flowers.
Hmm, take care with fertilizing,We can wait...not give too much salts.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Yes John, that pair of Ornatas are now in the tropical bed.
Brugie,yep...plenty of room to grow them.Time, not space, will be the limiting factor.
Tig,I never thought to share the tip on pots.Thought everyone used them. There is a drawback. All those seedlings will need to be potted up at least once before going into the garden.
More seed going to the seedbank tomorrow.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Wow JT! Out of all those babies you're sure to have some winners.
I've been planting mine in cell packs but your way looks like it takes up much less room. I'll have to try it this winter.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I've been using milk jugs but could have really used some of these, when I had more seeds than would fit in one jug. JT, you have had some great crosses, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Those look great JT. Best of luck with them. Should be some beauty's coming along.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

PB x EP....sounds very good. Couldnt read all of it LOL!
Hope that you get some beauties...keep my fingers crossed!

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Think I'll just run down to Milton and raid his greenhouse! When are you not home, JT?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Nice looking seedlings! Bet you can't wait to get them in the ground?

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

JT, the seedlings looks great. I bet you will have large fields with them this summer :)

FSH, TX

JT,
I was thinking the same thing. PB x Ecuador pink sounds like a real winner. If the rest of your crosses are half as good as that one sounds I think were all going to be dieing to see your hybrids bloom this year.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

GonetoSeed, You are really living up to your name. what a nice looking lot of seedlings. You sure have something to look forward to. Bet you will have some great hybrids. Donna

Great idea you have their for your seedlings. I grow my brugs in these types of buckets. The best part of it is that the buckets have handles that make it easy to lift the plants in the fall.

Contrats on your many seedlings!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

and I thought I had a lot of seedlings........LOL!

Could someone explain to me if it would matter if the cross is EP X PB instead of PB X EP? Does it matter to the offspring and if yes in what way.
thanks

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Kell,it would matter which way the plant was crossed. The resulting flowers would be different but either could be a great one.If I remember correctly the mother plant has the most influence on flower shape.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Ok,in the pots shown are these crosses;
Claire Mills x Moonshine from Kyle
Cotton Candy x Butterfly from Tig via BGI seedbank
PB x EP
SG x Rapture
Gold Traum x PB
PB x JP
BL x DS
and some seed soaked for a week in a super strength caffeine solution
Not yet sprouted are
Kyle's Pink x Whiskers
Rapture x ?
Arborea
Whiskers x Kyle's Pink
Ember Glow x PB
JP x Madiera
And more pods ripening every day but I am stopping here until the doubles mature.

JT,
Wow...talk about some seedlings. Could you tell Ann that wisteria that we were talking about at the swap never bloomed this year so I'm not 100% it is white. I'll be happy to do some cuttings if she is still interested. I can't remember if it bloomed last year or not...CRS.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

JT, good thing you are young and in good shape. i've had to moderate.... pulled up about 30 seedlings this weekend. as usual i have a couple of clumps of seeds in different places, volunteers...
Please post more picks, would love to see your rows of seedlings.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)
