Fountain / Water Lillies

I purchased this Copper Fountain for my garden. I was hoping to use it two-fold. The top as a bird bath, and the bottom for water lillies. Will the lillies grow there, and do birds come to fountains to splash around? (Did I waste my money?) LOL
