Stem mutation on arborea for Bruno

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Bruno I enjoyed your website again this afternoon and also the pictures of stem mutations. This one is from an arborea that I have purchased in Germany last fall. I have another one in a big pot that I can not identify, but it has up toseveral, but more compact with thread-shaped leaves. Different from those on Quinde tho.

That is very strange looking. The only seedling I have that looks different, came up with the cotyledon leaves and then split into two trunks. I'm wondering if they will be strong trunks or will split down the middle when they get bigger. Have to grow it and see though.

Tonny...Do you use Miracle Grow? I've noticed very simalar growths on my Arborea, Vulcanstaub and several Aurea group cuttings! I think these growths appear low down where the miracle grow hits the stems! I'm sure you know the name as I can't remember, but there is a sibundoy Valley mutation with tiny leaves??? The Chimera on my vulcanstaub often reminds me of this!

Susie, could this one be Glockchenfountaine in stead of arborea? I have not seen arborea form this out growths before (but I haven`t seen anything yet though). Could it be a cross? Gelber Engel and some sanguineas and vulcanicolas are famous for outgrowths like on the picture. Quinde has them too, but its definitly a plant of the arborea group.

Hmmm, I think I'm the wrong one to ask to identify it. I only have two arboreas and my Glockenfontaine doesn't seem that "hairy". Don't have sangs or the vulcanicola, they don't like our summers.

Shirley, that sounds like an interesting seedling you have got there :D

Bruno, no I only know Miracle grow by name. I use nitrophoska (nitrogen + phospor + kalium and micro`s) in grannules that I blend into a powder and dissolve in water. I have one of those blenders that can blend ice from the freezer and it pulverize the grannules very well, but what a noice it makes *lol* Maybe I mixed this one too strong a drink *lol* Its not much taller than when I posted the first pictures, but has two main stems and one bud :)

Susie, I forgot. I my book you know most everything :)

Kyle, I tried to find Muchira through the botanical garden in Nijmegen, but without any luck. Missouri botanical gardens (if I remember the name right) might be the place to ask as they have been in the valley collecting Culebras. Do you think it is possible to cross for a similar leaf shape using quinde and culebra or another hyrbid? We had funny leaves down here on all our hedges and the old appletree. It could be caused by fungus or maybe something used to spray the corn field with against dicotyleons. I don`t know and Lars wife in the garden center could not say for sure either. However, there was all those wierd leaf types. Round up can have this effect on some weeds as well, but they usually recover to normal after a while :(

Tonny my Arborea (the plant you sent me a long time ago)forms these growths...It's self-fertile so it most likely a pure arborea.

Thanks Kyle...I've got a head like a sieve and was too lazy to pick up the book which was beside me at the time ..LOL
