Someone wrote a letter to our local paper the other day because his dog was killed on the highway near his home. The writer felt the dog was hit because many drivers on that road constantly exceed the 65 mph speed limit. He went on to mention that several of his neighbors' pet have also been killed on the highway by speeders. (Apparently he thinks that a dog getting hit by a car going 65 won't be as dead as one hit by a car going faster.)
Now, I might be wrong, but I feel if you live that close to a busy road, YOU are responsible for keeping your pet off the road. As much as I love my dog, if she wandered onto the highway and got hit, I'd be hard pressed to blame it on the driver.
Ironically enough, this guy ended his letter with the statement that his dog was now dead "Due to one individual's thoughtlessness and carelessness" Now, isn't THAT the truth??!!
