brug question

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

was just wondering after reading other questions on this form what is the best ph level for brugs??? I know that mine are close to neutral but was just wondering what it should be???

I have seven to seven plus a half and that works really fine. I use spaghnum in the pots and it can turn real sour, so I ad extra calcium/magnesium blend to raise the level.

Golly, Pete, I never thought of the ph , but Monica says in her book that hard water is better, I think. We have well water, and I collect rain water to use. How did your do during the recent cold snap in the other Gulfport?

Monikas advice is excellent. Esp. for potted Brugs, but for Brugs planted directly in the dirt as well.

However, calcium in the water and how high dosage depends on PH-level in the pot soil or garden soil.

I would not dare to recommend Monikas watering method to one growing them on Texas desert limestones, but I would certainly do to one living on the Danish or Irish moor and ask them to add extra calcium as well. *lol* Any knowledge is vital as long as it is used with discrimination and adapted to fit various conditions (environments).

My brugs were really healthy last year and I, for the first time, added a couple of tablespoons, more or less, of finely crushed egg shell to the planting hole. I think I'll do it again this year. Maybe it had nothing to do with how they looked, but I was happy and why ruin a good thing if it works!!

I'm going to use egg shells, but only because of the blasted slugs. argh.

We've not had a problem with slugs, ever. I suppose there will be a first time. It would probably be much easier to just go get some oyster shell and toss it in the holes. It might work on the soil for the slugs too.

Thanks guys I have added some lime around a few to see if it makes a difference I was just wondering one day when I was putting lime on the grass.
Roz I had only one frost this past winter everything is comming back fine in fact most of my brugs have bloomed except for a few and they have buds on them now. I am lucky living close to the gulf

Pete, where are all the pictures. Those of us up north would love to see what is happening down south. Bet your brugs were beautiful in full bloom.

I believe with some lime you never do a mistake, I use it very much for my brugs.

Pete, Your brugs are doing as well outside as mine did in the gh without all the aphid problems! Glad you have blooms! I think I have a bloom on one of my species, but I always think a new leaf is possibly a new bud!! Missed you and Mrs. Pete at the plant swap! Next year?
