April 12-13 Weekend

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

We just go home from the wedding. Didn't go to the reception because was going to be nearly 5 before anyone got there and got it started from the way things were going at the wedding. It was going to be a 45 mile drive from the wedding to the recepetion and then we would be driving home in the dark on a very bad stretch of highway. The wedding was small, just close friends and family. They got married at one of Sedalia's parks in a nice archway beside the lake. Lovely setting for a spring wedding.
I planted the Easy Livn' rose Kris gave me for Mother's Day and the Cherry Parfait rose Shad's sister Cindy wanted this morning. They had arrived at Kris's early last week and needed to be put into the soil asap. I hope they bloom at least some this season.
We stopped at the garden center where I do most of my business and got a few new canna rhizomes to replace the ones we lost thru the winter even tho they were in the plant room. We had mealy bugs in there terribly and many rhizomes that I didn't have planted just dried up and died. I think I'll try planting some in the ground again this year. I didn' have any in the ground last year. Just potted ones and those didn't seem to make very large rhizomes. I know some were dwarf canna but they should have had larger rhizomes. I replenished with the same culitvars and these are really nice and big.
A brugmansia I had thought was dead and so cut it off almost to the soil line has sent up some new shoots. That really thrills me. I'll start to give it lots of encouragement and better care now that I know it is alive. Fortunately I had not thrown out the dirt, roots, etc. during the cold weather. Sometimes it pays to be a bad housekeeper.
Must run and do some yardening. Time waits for no one, you know.
GOD bless and keep each and all of you.
