any one else out in the sticks? i live in rural area with rice fields, cotton n beans all around. this means CROP DUSTERS!!! A few times a year the spray drifts across the road and casues major leaf drop and burn on my roses, but other plants seems to do just fine???? Since this is my first year to have brugs, I wonder if anyone has had problems with brug leaves and crop dusters? cheryl
crop dusters????
Sorry Cheryl..no crop dusters here.
Hi Cheryl, I live in a rural area in Ireland. We're surrounded by wheat fields and Dairy Cows!
I think crop dusting is illegal here for health and pollution reasons! We do have farmers who still burn off their fields even though it is illegal too because of wildlife, health and the ozone layer etc. One think I hate is when the farmers go Muck Spreading...I'm not sure what you call it in the States...but it sure stinks for days!
Bruno
Bruno,
I used to live in Belgium and I think what you are calling "Muck Spreading" is when they spread the feilds with manure? Back in the mid 70's before you were born the Belgians used everything from Pig manure to human for thier fields....nice smelling. LOL
cheryl here in iowa they use liquid fertilizer and use tractors to spray it on--so no spray drift--only problem is from the soybeans--i get a soybean weevil that crawls to my place--they get all over even in my house--they can strip the leaves of my plants in a couple days--i have to watch for them and spray cheryl
They still spread the human waste from the waste treatment plant around our county. This is kind of funny, but my BIL lets them spread it on his fields and he has lots of tomato plants germinate and grow until he cultivates. I'm afraid that would be tomatoes that I couldn't eat. It does smell bad Bruno.
wwe have crop dusters flying all over here, for 30 years, never been a problem, except for waking me at dawn..lol
Larkie
thanks larkie------been tellin my roses, that between the blackspot from the pit last year ,-- the crop dusters--and the drop dead drama of brug blooms, they might not be long for my beds as I can use the space and dont need their hassle. *I dont literally 'talk' to my plants ------well ok I DO lololol but so far they seem to have me on ignore.
Brugie,
In Belgium it never made it to the sewage treatment plant right from the septic to the fields.
What terrible stories! I hate spray....I would be holding my breath where you live Larkie and Playndirt. I am one of those people that actually washes her vegetables in soapy water before I cook them.
So Brugie, are you saying that lots of people in Iowa must eat tomatoes and that the seeds go thru intact and then they easily germinate once let loose in the fields? I would not eat those tomatoes either! LOL
And Glory, I will X out Belgium on my world tour! What were you doing living there? I bet you upgraded the quality of their fertilizer thru your personal No 1 quality donations. Did they hate to see you go? LOL.....that is I mean LEAVE! I bet they loved to see you go!

I'm with you Kell, I'd even move! Some spraying is part of living in an agricultural area, but if your plants are dying then so are your lungs. Plants indicate these things. And if you smell other pesticides then you should wear a mask, and you can't wear a mask all day. Yuk. Imagine the ground water.
Kell,
My DH worked for the Department of Defense and that was one of their departments. LOL Ron worked 28 years for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service(BX and PX military retail stores) and Belgium is where SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) is located. I recommend visiting there when you do your trip to Germany to get some Brugs. :0)
Kell, that's what I'm saying!! LOL!!
