need a good datura picture

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I want to show my spousal unit what a datura in bloom looks like. Not just the flower, but a flowering plant. I think I have a good place for one if we both agree on it.

This is Datura stramonium.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks Ludger. I was hoping for a shot of a whole plant in bloom. Do they bloom as heavily as the bruggies?

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Yes, they do but the flowers do last only very short. You never will have that blooming like the brugs do.

One Daturaflower will open the next is going...no batch..smile.

Can you use these pictures? I will send to your mailaddy if you would like.

If you will need more pictures - please email me.

I have D.stramonium in my yard. Same plant Monika do know from the "after the.. fields" in Frankfurt.
An Expert from Austria told us that only D stramonium will germinate here and will bring seeds for next year.

Will stop this now, it will kill my time......

Woodspirit1, email me if you need more...

That one is heavenly, what is it called?
Laurrie

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Its heavenly Blue, Laurrie. Its icy-blue in June, but when the weather warms up towards august it get this rich blue color. Say, is it Larrrie from the GW? *lol* I noted the Ohio initials and became curious :)

Re Lugers's comment about "you'll never have that blooming like the brugs do"...D. stramonium var. tatula usually makes a HUGE plant for me (3 meters tall, and nearly as wide)and completely covered with flowers during about two months in the hottest part of the summer. By moonlight, it simply glows! Wish I could post some of my pics from last year! But my brother has a digital camera now, so maybe this summer I can post some good ones.

This is one of my favorites . . . need to find me another one. This is Missouri Marble. I had it in a pot so it didn't get real big, but was very pretty.

welcome back Tonny. nice to see u posting again.

unfortunately, my old computer crash and was not able to save any of my old photo from last summer. but here is what i have posted here on DG ... http://davesgarden.com/contest/2002/brug/viewbyuser.php?user=MaVieRose be sure to click each photo to see a better view instead of the thumbnail photo.

the black currant swirl grew to nearly 5' tall with side expansion to 4' wide. the white alba datura grew to 3' tall.

since the traumatic experience with a former neighbor, sad to say, as beautiful as those blooms were, i was unable to save any seeds. i will miss these daturas this summer:).

I wish to thank all of you so much. I needed the pictures to help show my spousal unit what the plant would look like growing down by the papowawa (remember? That's PAtio, POnd, WAterfall and again, WAterfall). The 2 waterfalls are in sort of grotto he made to cover an ugly steep bank where he took soil to level the ground for the patio. Our land is very steep and he had to build that retaining wall for the pond. It's almost finished and the second pump is on its way. He found a pump that moves a lot of water, yet only uses about as much electricity as a 100-watt bulb and I will post about that soon.
Tonny & Lene, yes it's Betty. Ludger, I will not need more pictures, there are plenty here to show to my spousal unit (a term from the early days of a comedy show that is called "Saturday Night Live")

Oh my goodness, these pictures are incredible. The first time I saw a datura I thought it was the prettiest flower I had ever seen.

I can't imagine yours Root, please grow one this year that size and take many pictures for my screensaver. Tonny that picture of your Heavenly Blue that is a single, is rruly a work of art! Be still my heart. You are such a Datura expert. I do not know how your brain holds so many facts!

All of Ma Vie's are exceptional. Ludger's plant is huge and the leaves so different. Deb, I don't think I knew it came as a variegated plant also. So nice. And Cotosnag, is yours a double purple? I just love it.

Sadly, mine first attempt last year to grow them ended in sudden death but fortunately I was able to see them all bloom several times.

So Woodspirit, do you only have room for 1? Which one have you decided on? They are all spectacular.

beautiful Tonny!

Do yo realize your heavenly blue has no copyright on it? I was trying to steal it for my desktop so I like that it does not, but you may want to protect it for a book someday. However I can only save it as a bitmp instead of a jpeg. Do you know why? And do you know the difference? Thanks Tonny!!!!

So heavenly blue is your creation? I just love it so much!

I am glad you mean for us to help ourselves........LOL.......... since I have already installed it on my desktop as we speak. I hated to be a thief. I also sent it to my friends and sister.

Thanks Tonny, you have such a great attitude! I have noticed on some sites prevent you from copying their pictures, and it drives me crazy. I understand that they want to copyright their pictures, but for learning purposes it makes it so hard. I like to chat with my friends about the different brugs and it makes it so much easier if you can copy the picture and put it in your email. I find some brug stores let you do that, but the educational sites do not. It would be good publicity for them if they had their website in the pic and let you freely copy them.

I do not care about the copyright, but I love to have my name on my pictures. LOL, my ego! Though a photographer looking at my pics might think I should not put my name on them if I have an ego! LOL
