in our bruggarden.I think I may post these pictures here...
This is the early hen I talked about.
They eat the weeds
Ludger, How many eggs is your turkey hen setting on and when will they hatch. Is she loose in your garden or in a pen. Doesn't she step on your your plants. I have 3 banties, 1 rooster , 2 hens, they keep me in eggs, they are fairly large type banties and eggs are what you would buy in the store as small. Right now they are closed in their pen as they were digging and scratchin in all my newly planted plants in the woodland garden. Keep us posted on the turkeys. Donna
She only still has 13 eggs.Last night a wild animal tried to catch her..3 eggs has been destroyed this morning. This evening I will try to move her with the eggs into a stable.Hatching date is May 6th. Most time they can go free in most parts from the garden.
I'm glad she escaped the animal! Will she still sit on the eggs if you move them?
I put the eggs in a large box and put the box at that place where the hen sits. In darkness I will move box, eggs and hen.
Last years it worked.
I will take 10 of them.......... and I need hungry ones for I forgot to put down Preen this year......... woe is me!
It did not "work".
The hen sat at the "boxed" eggs again late noon.
I went at work and when I came back in darkness the unknown animal has been there again.
She is nt feeling well, some bloody points.
I decided to care for her. The eggs are away now and the hen is inside in house.
Sorry for taking away the eggs, my turky is more important to me.
She is just a pet to me............
What kind of wild animals do you have Ludger? Foxes?
Yes, foxes and different mardens and free walking dogs.
No problem next to the yard but outside it is a problem.
oh Ludger, I'm sorry, I sure hope she's okay.
Hope so,too.
She was chatting to me and now she is resting downstairs.
I watched the wounds with some medicin...dont know how to explain it better.
May be I am crazy, any will think: It is only a turky...
She is my pet, Iīll try to care for her.
Ludger: Any pet can win our hearts, they become one of the family. I don't think you are crazy. I do hope she recovers and has other eggs at a later date.
that's right Ludger, a pet is a friend.
It's good to see someone who has such good feelings for animals. Some pets are more than friends, they're family.
Ludger, Pets are part of the family. When they are hurt you take care of them like you would your child. My pets are my best friends. I hope she will be better soon. She's lucky she has you to take care of her.
I dont know that this will make you feel better----but for what its worth, my husband claims that turkeys are actually VERY intelligent animals (of course thats from a hunters perpsective :S) I dont know much about eggs, can they be put on a warmer, or is it too late? for everyone else reading,---I know hunting sounds cruel but hubby never kills what he wont eat, and he spray painted some rocks orange and placed them around our kildees nest *ground nesting bird* to keep them from being trampled by lawnmower, children just yesterday. He also puts spiders outside as do I. *mutters but we squish the mosquitos :S* p.s. --ludger, my dad used to take powdered sulfur, and medicated petroleum jelly n make an antibiotic salve for our dogs wounds,---that in combonaiton with tripple antibiotic cream might not hurt? just a thought. cheryl
That is so sad!!!! She must have put up a good fight to survive.
Ludger,sending prayers for your(((pet)))!!
I hope she is doing ok.
Please keep us updated.
I love my pets-so I know how your feel.
Prayers for you,too!!
Colie
No more crazy than any of us are. Pets are definitly family with big a F and we appreciate very much your concern for the little hen. On what parts was she bitten/ clawed? we hope it wasn`t in a vital place and now that you have cleaned the wounds she will probably recover soon. We had a brown rabbit that got bitten in the stomac and all the interior hang out, but due to the best care and inspite of several severe infections it recovered fully. Keep on caring and treating it and even if it gives up the fight take its place and fight for it and never give it a chance to up.
Sincerely
Lene and Tonny
SMILE,
the Lady seems to be pretty ok again. She "escaped" out the box tonight and was in the kittchen this morning....I very liked to clean the floor, lol.
I put her in a small stable next to the house. She ate and she drank water ( important!!)
The wounds are dry, no inflammation !!!
Cheryl, thank you, I used some of these chemicals last nights, only missed the spellings...I ever have some here because I get much ill animals. The vet always gives some to me.
Your DH seems to be a very good and responsible hunter, please send greetings to him. I like such hunters, we are working together here in nature. Are good friends to me.
Debbie,TiG, Snow, Collie and all others, thank you so much for your thoughts. You are right each animal can be a pet.
I will keep you informed, I am shure she will have new legs this year. The old ones are lost because too cold for too long.
(((HUGS)))
Ludger
glad to hear she's okay.
Glad you managed to save her. That is saving a friend :)
I love to save friends and pets.
You are a fine gentleman and a sport :)
Ludger, just came into the house and read about your pet hen turkeys bad night. Sure glad you were able to save her, and too bad about the eggs getting too cold. It is early and maybe she will lay more eggs. Good Luck Donna
Glad this story has had a happy ending for her and you.
