Observation of my inside brugs and bugs!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Can you tell the cold weather is getting to me?

ANYWAY- I've been keeping a log of what brugs have been hit with spider mites this winter. {Other then fungus knats, this seems to be my only winter pest} In my first time record keeping attempt on brugs. I've noted which seedling seem to be brug magnets for spider mites. I've also noted what named plants are the worst offenders for the mites. So far I found that Whiskers is the all time magnet for mites at my house. I've also noted that several seedlings that I have growing seem to not be bothered by the mites. Others have been leafless for the last month and seem to be very attractive to the spider mites. I'm curious what summer will bring.

What brugs do you have that are spider mite magnets?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Knock on wood Kristi, I have not had spider mites this winter on any of my brugs. I had a few on the baby ears and I sprayed right away. BUT....and this is a big one, in the basement where some of brugs are, I have been fighting aphids. Thank goodness that they will be going outside in just about three weeks. I do believe aphids are much harder to fight than mites.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I agree Brugie, that's what I fought all winter. Didn't get mites, thank heavens.

Herrenhäuser Gärten and Desiree are magnets...

I've never had aphids on my brugs. Didn't know they were a problem. Is it just inside or outside as well?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Really girls? I am so surprised. I much rather have aphids, just soapy water kills them. I absolutely hate spidermites. I never notice them until they have taken off big time. Aphids I see right away. And they are much more entertaining since they come in all colors and keep changing.....LOL

My Double whites are the ones that get the spider mites Kristi. drives me crazy!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I have about 7 different whites, single and double. Would you believe.......nothing bothers those!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I believe it Gloria! I think you are probably a super gardener but do not toot your own horn! Like your artwork, it is superb but you are so quiet about it!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

You are a sweetie. I have been quiet about my other brugs, they HAVE had bugs..all kinds! Shhhh

What a good idea making book on insect resistance *lol* Last summer we had armies of catapillars, but was free of anything else, but iron deficience. This year we had a few slugs eating the top of Charles Grimaldi, but nothing else thus far.

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

got my first 2 brugs in mail this week sauveolens pink and ecuador pink--noticed spider mites on my eduador--brugie warned me about spider mites--so i have been spraying them with water--hope they dont spread to all my other plants in my house--never had spider mites before--new experience!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Mites love that tender new growth. Just keep your eyes peeled in case they do make it to another plant. Might be a good idea to get an insecticide that you can use once you take the brugs outside for the summer. When it gets hot and dry, the mites love them.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

If you have them on a small plant, I use neem oil. I put on plastic gloves and spray it all over. Works well!
