hydrogen peroxide for algae

Hampton, GA(Zone 7b)

I read somewhere that putting hydrogen peroxide in the water will take care of string algae. But can't remember where! Does anyone know how much you should put in? Also think I heard that if you just leave it alone, it will go away. Anyone else heard that? Thanks,

lacemosaic, I know several people who have used it with great success. The average dose is 1 pint hydrogen peroxide per 1000 gallons of water. A friend safely uses 1.5 pints per 1000 gallons with no harm to plants or fish.

I doubt that it would hurt anything in much larger does. It breaks down to oxygen. It's good to keep on hand, not only for string algea but works great if you have a 02 drop as well.

You can use it daily and pour it directly on the SA if you want to. It gets rid of it rather quickly. In the mean time, fish out as much as you can.

I'm getting ready to treat my own pond. My veggie filter has developed quite a bit over the past couple of weeks.

I've never heard of, or seen it go away all by itself. In my experience, it only gets worse.

It won't go away by itself. And if not removed after killing it anerobic bacteria will suffocate the fish.
